The chair of the meeting post-election made such comments to the farmers and vendors present at the meeting as "we don't care what you think we're going to listen to the county," "the Leroy James farmers market will be closed until Farmers learn how to grow tomatoes in the winter," he threatened certain members of the committee who disagreed with him with lawsuit, and replied to the vendors who were having a hard time hearing what was going on in the meeting due to a lack of microphone being provided by the county despite it being requested that they should "put your hearing aids in Old Man."
This is a person who brags about going to barbecues and birthday parties with County staff while presiding over the advisory committee meeting, this is a person who represents the Pitt County Board of Commissioners and County staff. This person self admits to having anger management issues and brags about ripping telephones out of the hospital wall back in the day. He looked the vendors right in the eye and said I do not represent you.
If we want to save this farmers market it means listening to the farmers who literally make up the name of the market. The vendors must be heard.
Now, instead of listening to the vendors, the vendors who disagreed with the current policies are being kicked out one by one. Read moreHad a great time on Saturday. Purchased so many wonderful items. The popcorn from Popcorn Pleasers was excellent. Had a refreshing cup of fresh squeezed lemonade as well! All the vendors were friendly and I enjoyed talking with them. I purchased onion, okra, green tomatoes, free range chicken, organic garlic, and pineapple salsa. Sampled and purchased some Happy Hummus.I didn't realize we had so many local farmers and artisans. We even have a local vineyard. And there was live music! They have so many different things to choose from, like various homemade candles, soaps, lotions, handmade wood products, and of course a variety of in season fresh fruits and vegetables. The lady who oversees things, Miss Rita, is super helpful and is glad to answer any questions you may have, such as using EBT (which they accept for food) or becoming a vendor to sell your products.
