Do not recommend for people with kids!!!
I am reviewing this facility of the pros and cons:
The sauna can use some improvement as it smelled really bad like dog and other bad smells. The lights were off, but it is okay because other times it did not stink so bad. Today, was bad. Yesterday, real bad. Heat plus sweat plus no wiping is perfect environment for stinky bacteria. FIx: Cleaning schedule
Parking: A nightmare. Took 20 minutes to park. Kid needed to go pee. Had teen take her to pee at the daycare facility. Finally parked 20 minutes later to find out that my 16 year old son could not sign in my 3 year old because I was not present. I told him babe get off, take her to pee, I am coming. I need to park. Baby is off of diapers potty trained at 3, but cannot hold it for 20 minutes!
That is okay. Problem was when I got there. The lady wanted to give me a lecture on why she needs a parent present. Understandable, until a man was talking to my back. I turned to asked to see if he was talking to me because I was also talking to the party in front of me. Someone was talking to my back. I felt like basic human decency would mean one at a time.
Further I turned snappy and said can I finish. Yes, not the best response but 20 min to park, plus toddler running around, plus not being acknowledged by daycare staff after we made eye contact , plus being talked to a man from the back will do that to you. He was respectful after, introduced himself after. I approached, but I was not very receptive because he literally just tried to scold me for sending my teen to take my kid pee, reintegrating how the adult had to be present, and was talking over the lady in front of me and her. Sir, you cannot be buff and aggressive. I will not acknowledge you. I understand sir, but I gotta get to class. That teen is also in adult swim classes. I feel like I was being tagged team aggressively. My response is not to submit but match energy. Sorry, it is who I am.
We got to swim late, toddler was checked in, fussed at by two people at the same time, to come home to the director wanting to discuss and incident. Hmm, I tried calling her back. But what do you think she is gonna do. Yet a third adult is gonna scold me tomorrow. Why because I was in the wrong.
Why not deal with the real problem. Occupancy limits for the building codes, parking enough for customers? Literally every parking spot was taken. All of them. My son did not have a lane to swim on a paid swim class because there were only 4 lanes. They had another class there talking the remainder of the pool, zumba blasting music. So he got there late and it was a waste of time and money. Do not recommend. We were late 3 minutes.
My kid is sick from the other little kids at the daycare. I have attended the facility 8 days! If the main issue occupancy was taken care of then maybe wiping of the facility would take place. Maybe the classes that I paid for would be a success. The sauna would not smell like a dog, The lockers would actually shut and have space for my phone and wallet. No boils down to occupancy issue and respect. 30 day notice will be typed and turned in tomorrow.
The lady at the daycare had an attitude that was dismissive. Hello ma'am. I am here. Need to get to class because it take 20 minutes to park. She kept being a smart mouth we cannot check her in with no adult. Okay, I am here. Can you check her in now. I am so infuriated that I really wish I was not fat and needed the gym. They need to increase their parking plan limits, and control the occupancy space code for the building. There are limits in pools, in daycares, in a space due to fire code. So run. it is like a scene from the lion king where the animals run in panic in every direction. Yes I was not my best self today. I take full responsibility, but...
Read moreA Hidden Gem for Families & Wellness â Mountain Lion YMCA, Harker Heights TX
The YMCA on Mountain Lion Road in Harker Heights is truly a hidden gem in our community. From the moment you arrive, the peaceful, nature-filled surroundings welcome you. The facility is located near a beautiful park where children can play and offers a lovely walking trail that makes you feel connected to nature â complete with trees, birds, and even friendly little squirrels that often greet you on early morning walks.
Inside, the YMCA is just as impressive. The facility offers a wide variety of classes and activities for all ages, and itâs clear that family and community are at the heart of their mission. My family and I were warmly greeted and walked through the facility by Brailyn, the front desk coordinator. Her energy was uplifting, and she was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough in explaining everything. Her smile alone could brighten anyoneâs day!
The childcare services here are excellent. The daycare is thoughtfully divided by age groups â 0â3 years, 3â5 years, and 6 and up â making it easier to cater to each stage of development. The child and youth services staff, especially Lacey and her Team, have been so caring and professional. When my son had a minor incident (completely accidental), they were quick to respond, deeply concerned, and handled the situation with compassion and professionalism. Their dedication and care for the children are evident and deeply appreciated.
My daughter also had her first swim class here, and the staff was outstanding. Mr. Corey, in particular, was kind and professional and made the experience enjoyable for her.
I want to especially highlight the front desk team. Too often their role is underestimated, but they are truly the first impression and set the tone for the entire facility. Brailyn and Ms. Martha are the heartbeat of the front desk â always warm, attentive, and welcoming, even when things get busy. They embody the YMCAâs mission of supporting military families in spirit, mind, and body. Every time I walk into the building and see them, I feel uplifted.
To be fully transparent, I did have one unpleasant encounter with another front desk staff member (short black hair, possibly Hispanic), whose attitude was less than welcoming. At the time, it almost made me reconsider signing up. But I remembered how Sunshine Brailyn made me feel during our first interaction â and Iâm so glad I gave it another chance. Her positive spirit reminded me that one person should not determine your entire experience, especially when the rest of the team is so exceptional.
If youâre thinking about joining, I highly recommend requesting Brailyn or Ms. Martha at the front desk. They will make you feel right at home. The Mountain Lion YMCA is a place where your family can thrive â physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Sign up. You...
Read moreWhat a discouraging disappointment we had at the HH facility today!!! đĄ We drove all the way from Temple and back but the return trip my 6 year old granddaughter was sobbing because we were denied entry to the pool. I am visiting from out of state to care for her over her spring break. My husband is retired military (retired from then Ft Hood in 2004) but we now live in another state. We have a current ymca membership with our local YMCA. What I was told today was extremely frustrating. Prior to my trip, I messaged your facility through your website. I have yet to receive a response. I scoured your website and Facebook sites looking for information telling me that my current membership would not be valid at your facility, but I found nothing. At your facility, I was told your âArmed Servicesâ YMCA has no association with the âYMCAâ - but you have the same logo?! The young woman I was talking with asked if we were just wanting to use the pool during open swim, I replied yes. She said we could pay a day use fee. She then asked if I was Mom, to which I responded no - Iâm her Grandma and am caring for her over Spring Break. She then tells me I cannot take her in without a notorized consent from her parents that has been approved by the site director. When I asked about what the site director hours are so I can bring the letter, she tells me the approval take 3-5 DAYS. These are ridiculous expectations and quite exclusionary. Iâm am so very disappointed in our experience today. After coming home I again I scoured your website and Facebook page and see nowhere a non-affiliation statement OR a requirement for a notorized approval requirement for a grandparent to bring a grandchild. I will add, that, prior to moving out of state I was an employed caregiver who was able to take my charges to an Austin area YMCA without a notorized approval from the parents or a membership. We paid the day fee and that was it. I would rate a this YMCA (uses the same logo as my YMCA but not affiliated?) zero stars if I could. Total lack of proper communication. No actual list of contacts to reach out to (who is the...
