Dear Greenskeeper: CUT YOUR GRASS SHORTER!!! The green was the length of a typical fairway, the fairway was rough, and the rough is ridiculous⌠Iâm talking 3-5 inches! I lost 6 balls that were good shots just off the fairway in the rough. Simply could not find the ball in the long grass and clumps of previous cuts. I usually can golf 18 with 1 sleeve. To lose 6 balls that were within 5 feet of the fairway is crazy! This course is also expensive for what it is. $38 on a weekday for a course just above a dog track? And then to lose $25 worth of balls to good shots? Come on! You owe me 2 sleeves of Crome Soft balls Hartland Glen!!!
You might be in good shape compared to where you were, I canât attest to that, or compared to Iron Wood close by, but far from the local courses I typically play for around the same price or cheaper. I actually had a good round and struck the ball well, but amazingly frustrating when you cant find your ball in what should be the 1st cut rough, or put any spin on a shot in the fairway because grass in between your club and the ball (BTW, that should NEVER be the case in the fairway!) If your course was in good shape youâd be busier! I have a friend that lives close by and golfs HG often. He said he usually gets a quick round in on Friday or Saturday. He even asked why you werenât busier a couple weeks ago and one of your own employees said âItâs the course conditions.â You shouldnât be so quick to toss aside criticism. I worked as an assistant greenskeeper while I was in college. Trust me, cut the grass shorter and roll the greens more. Go visit Chumung Hills or Timber Trace (similar in price) if you want to see what your course could...
Read moreWe played the North course, which, according to the slope/rating and yardage, SHOULD have been the tougher of the two courses. But the pro shop guys seemed to think otherwise. I'll verify that at a later date. My review, from tee to green and everything in between goes as follows. The greens were absolutely beautiful. Country Club -esque. Plush and green. They were running true and smooth, albeit slow (about an 8), probably 'cause of the rain. The boxes were level and manicured. Most of your fairways and approach shots were flat with slight changes in elevation. The challenge came in hitting the smaller than average greens and negotiating up-and-downs out of the dense and resilient rough. I saw a lot of women and couples out there, which tells me course is mildly challenging from the different tee boxes. All in all, I'd say the course doesn't penalize the short ball-hitter as much as it does the inaccurate long ball-hitter. So the 10-hcp player will build confidence, while the
Read moreI spent a beautiful Saturday playing 18 holes at Hartland Glen, and for someone who values peace and scenery, it has a lot to offer. The woods, the gently winding layout, the sense of being tucked away â ideal for escaping the noise of daily life.
Some holes are more forgiving than others, which is good when Iâm more focused on having fun with friends than perfect contact. The pace of play was decent; I never felt pressured, which is important to me. There were groups of women playing together, which is always nice to see!
The tee boxes, especially the forward tees, and the greens could use some TLC. I know the weather had not been kind last month with all the heat, so hopefully this rain helps! The staff were friendly, and the round ended with gorgeous sunlight over the trees.
If your priority is to enjoy nature, a few challenges, and a day to recharge with friends and family, Hartland Glen is...
