This book shop has a huge selection of used books, arranged by topic.
The main floor is jam-packed with all sort of volumes: fiction, classics, beautiful tooled ornamental vintage books, sets, poetry, cooking, children's books, and so forth.
The upper floor has higher ceilings and the books are packed to them! This floor is nonfiction, mostly history of all types, and has smaller rooms full of engineering, science, radio, and so forth.
There are chairs to read in, and some kids' toys to keep them entertained.
I also found a small stack of graphic novels which was awesome! I wish they had a whole section of those, though I know they sell fast. It was strange to just find them in a pile instead of on a shelf someplace.
The owner was very helpful and friendly, while letting visitors explore at their own pace.
There is a friendly cat in residence, so keep in mind that you may want to take allergy meds if that's useful for you.
Books are moderately priced - they are relatively expensive for things like first editions, though most books are in the $10 range that I found, so still quite affordable.
Come with an idea of subject areas in mind, not particular books, and you'll leave with a few (or a lot!)...
Read moreMy son and I took a trip to the Old Number 6 Book Depot in Henniker. We spent at least a few hours there. Treasures upon treasures! Bookcases ten feet tall, if not more, antiquated books everywhere, a gorgeous copy of The Compleat Angler in amongst the tomes, and then a wonderful copy of A Treatyse of Fysshynge Wyth an Angle written by Dame Juliana Berners, a fifteenth-century English nun, a book I'd read about, wrote about, but never thought I'd hold in person. Even being a reproduction, they have every right to ask $300 for it.
Books from 1812, original copies, reproductions, and many which I wish I could hear their stories if they could talk. Soft suede covers, leatherbound, many falling apart with less than perfect pages which is positively perfect to me! So many styles of book I never knew existed. I felt like Dean Corso looking for prize collections in The Ninth Gate.
While it rivals The Book Barn of Niantic, CT in books and setting, the prices are reasonable and not at all outlandish. If there's a topic of interest or wondering if a book exists, it's probably here. We'll be back, timed with pay days!

Read moreMy first visit Jan 17, 2018 = Crazy!. I've been a book seller for 35 years and have visited many book shops and attended many antiquarian book shows- this might be on top of my list of out of print book shops to set as a day trip. Hours are an amazing 7-days a week, 10 to 5 p.m. I'm retired from SoWest Conn., now living in nearby Hillsboro. We found this shop by chance while just driving around learning about our new surroundings. Most impressive to me is the seller taking time to preserve all the dust jackets with clear preservation covers. So in addition to all the other reviewers rave comments please set a few hours aside to experience a book lovers epicurean treat of over indulgence. This shop is huge. You'll drift away from your normal field of interest and be drawn endlessly to other subjects. " DĂŠpasse les attentes! ", " Supera le aspettative ", " Ăbertrifft...
