Just arrived in Hermann today for our 15yr anniversary and my wife suggested we check this place out. We drove up the dark, narrow, half gravel road and saw the business was closed. We never got out of the car. We drove around the building to go back out the way we came only to be met head on by a white pickup truck with its brights in our eyes taking up the narrow path so that we couldn’t pass or get around them. The person in the drivers seat was flailing arms out of the window and proceeded to get closer to our car. We moved to the side thinking they wanted to get by, but then someone yelled out of the window “who are you and what are you doing here?!”. Mind you it’s 6:30pm not midnight. We couldn’t see anything and we couldn’t get out. My wife was freaking out. I replied that we were from out of town and wanted to check the place out as we had seen it online. The person did not reply, just put the truck in reverse all the while beaming us with headlights until he could pull off to the side. We passed and then he continued to follow behind us with his brights on the whole way down the long hilly entrance. If this was the owner, shame on you, if this was not the owner, the owners should know that someone is threatening your customers. We will not be checking this place out or going back as my wife now believes it’s dangerous and not worth the risk.
Update: I couldn’t respond to his comment so I’ll put it here. You were not blinded by headlights. Mine were not even on. He did NOT leave room for us to pass him. I was pulled half way off the side of the road so he could come by us and even flashed my light to let him know to come by or to pass cause our spot was much wider, he never did! Where he was at we clearly couldn’t come past him. I started moving forward I was gonna try to pass him off the road since I was in my Jeep but when we did that he pulled forward and angled his truck at us making us still not be able to pass. Also there was no gate saying no trespass after hours or anything. We are not from here and just wanted to see the property. No different then going to any other business after hours. For him saying we made him uncomfortable is absolute garbage. We will never be back and not recommend this place to anyone. Especially after the owner is trying to make us out to be...
Read moreWhat beautiful grounds!! Copper Mule is family owned and operated distillery that is starting to really ramp up their production abilities. I visited with family on a Thursday after noon and took the grounds tours. The Lady of house gave the tour and was very will versed in her business and history but not so much on the intricacies of there product. That didn't take away from the experience and seeing first hand the building and construction of there facilities was very interesting. I look forward to seeing how the distillery and tasting area finishes out and rick house fills up over the next year or two. The new still will provide more consistence and promote a better product. They already have good tasting whiskey, it will interesting to see this brand grow over the years. I recommend getting a drink from the bar and sitting on the back porch looking over the grounds before you walk it for the tour. Their barrel program is a neat concept, unfortunately the timing for some one who live out of state is not convenient. Anyone local should get in on it. The frozen old fashion is delicious! We left with a few bottles...
Read moreThe staff is extremely friendly and helpful. But as someone who has been to a stupid amount of distilleries, it's not a place I would return to or really write home about.
The bourbon is decent. Not the best I've ever had not the worst. I ordered a 9 dollar drink that was a little too strong and came in a cheap plastic Dixie cup sized portion. For a place called "The Copper Mule" I expected copper cups... But ok lol
The food was okay. The sliders were yummy but over priced. The charcuterie board had two cheese options and nothing was all that interesting or even worth it. For a place surrounded by wurst houses I woulda thought there would be more selection. Overall it felt like a place that tried to be fancy, but if you squint your eyes a little too hard, you realize how cheap it is. For 50 bucks I felt a little ripped off.
Final note, why do they close at 5 on a Friday?!
So go ahead and try it if you're bored on a Friday night, but you may be better off trying Doxie Slush for a...
