Great views. Didn’t expect Illinois to have such views as this place does. During the coronavirus pandemic the stair case was blocked off so we had to climb down through the side of it. It was very slippery, so if you find yourself in this position, be careful. The parking lot that’s the closest to this place is extremely small. We got lucky and found a spot there but most of the people just park on the side of the road before even reaching the pathway to this beach.

Openlands Lakeshore preserve is open again following a several year hiatus after munitions were found on the beach. All old parts of the trail are open except for the community trails that led down to the beach from the hilltops. There are some eerie signs warning visitors to check where they walk for munitions, but as far as I went today, the trail looked good. Glad to be back

Love this place. Great for observing nature (mostly birds, bugs, and wildflowers) and seeing Lake Michigan from an unusual angle for Chicagoland. Dog friendly and a favorite destination of my pups. Not sure how accessible the actual beach is for differently abled people.
