I love to spend my weekend mornings jogging (or walking) amid beautiful surroundings. Openlands Lakeshore Preserve definitely fits the bill. It's a beautiful mixture of forest, beach, and even art. There are a couple of paved trails that are great for jogging or biking, but I recommend taking the stairs down to the beach and just absorbing the beautiful view. It was almost empty on a Sunday morning in the summertime! If this place was a little bigger, it would be even better. Yes - I used beautiful three times in this review. There's no other way to describe it! You'll just have to go in person and see...

Beautiful Openlands Lakeshore Preserve! Where else can you find poetry, art, and murals while hiking along a ravine that leads to Lake Michigan?!

Do want to mention that the preserve is a work in progress (IMO). Mother Nature has taken her toll, and the Openlands are doing a fantastic job restoring this beautiful place. I would say that it's not done...yet. What is "done" is beautiful so I focus on those aspects. It's worth the extra effort to find the preserve and enjoy it's...

A magical spot on the lake.

Great views, pretty trails, interesting beaches, and never too many people. My dogs and I go all the time.

FYI They do have a port-a-potty, but no other services (i.e. a sink) and definitely not designed with disabled people in mind. I don’t think there’s any way for a wheelchair to get down to the shore....

My only complaint is that it’s too small. I wish they had been able to purchase more of the...

Off the beaten path compared to the main section of the Fort Sheridan property. Parked at the west entrance and walked down the 3/4 mile paved path to the lakefront. Beautiful views from the narrow dirt trail. Not a lot of beach space but you can find a nice little nook to get close to the water (swimming and wading not allowed. See warning signs.) Great unique and not too crowded hiking spot.
