As of Match, 2018... They STILL keep the aisles far too crowded. You can hardly get around the store sometimes. I don't know if they order too much, too often or what. An even worse problem is how rarely they have the cash registers properly manned. There's almost always a line and it's usually quite long, maybe up to eight or nine people with carts. Meanwhile, there's only one pie clerk, slaving away at the register. All the rest of the employees seem to magically disappear into the back of the store somewhere.
It would be nice if they didn't have so much stock out in the aisles but there's probably no other solution. The clerks are usually quite friendly.
Update on 6/1/2017: They seem to be Under New Management or something. Now the aisles seem to be way more stocked than before. Worse than that, they almost never have more than one person running a register, no matter how many people are standing in...

Sometimes this leads to long lines at the poorly designed checkout counters because they are not there... they are trying to get stock out I guess. The whole front end is a poorly designed front end and doesn't have good customer flow. We do shop there occasionally but not very often. I think Dollar General missed the boat when designing the size and the flow of customer traffic. She ask if she could load a prepaid visa she was buying with a money order and the clerk said yes. It would not work . The clerk made her LEAVE her cart full that SHE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR to go cash money order. When she left the clerk was telling the 6 customers up there how stupid my daughter in law was and continued to put my daughter in law down speaking badly of her.
