Monday Evening, November 21, 2022. I went into this Ace hardware store to grab some spray paint. I also wanted to check the Christmas lights as well. I saw the Gold LED Mini Multicolored/Warm White 100 ct String Christmas Lights 33 ft. On sale, PRICED $19.99. Not too bad of a price. Once I got to the register, the Christmas light rang at $24.99. I asked the lady at the register for a prices check. I only asked for a price check because I was sure of the cost. Not a massive fan of price checks. I only took that item off the shelf because it had a big red tag on sale. An older male associate went to check the price. As I wait at the register for the associate to return. It took some time before he returned. My gut feeling was someone was getting a stern talk. Instead of being honest and owning his mistake, and honoring the price. I rather that be the case. Finally, the associate returned to the register with the "right tag!" How convenient. At this point, I no longer wanted the Christmas lights. After checking out, I went back to where I saw the light displayed. Maybe I missed something. Maybe there was an item on sale above the lights I originally wanted to purchase. No, that wasn’t the case a regular price item was above the lights I wanted to buy. I knew they had changed the tag to its proper spot, which made me more frustrated! As I was exiting the store. I mention it to the older woman working the register. She was KIND enough to honor the price as I explained the truth.
The lesson to this story is honesty is rare to come across. So take a picture of the item or walk to the back with the associate. I don't take dishonesty too well it honestly...
Read moreJust got back from Ace with my dad. My dad's brother recently went into a full-time care facility and we were cleaning out his garage. My uncle is a bit of a hoarder and he had many bags of unopened purchases from many different stores. We no longer had receipts but we spent the day returning items for store credit. Home Depot, Walgreens, CVS, Big R, Menards, Great Outdoors...all gave store credit without question or issue. This Ace scanned one item and easily found the receipt that all our return items belonged to, and the date was fairly recent. He had purchased the items just days before he had the fall that left him hospitalized. The manager and then the general manager refused the returns bc we didn't have the credit card (now a closed account Discover card) with us. Who doesn't allow a return with receipt for store credit just bc u no longer have the card? Apparently just one store doesn't. Ace Hardware in Homer Glen lost my whole extended family's business today for making a bad and insensitive decision. My Dad even knows the CEO of Ace and it used to be his favorite store. Tomorrow we may contact the owner, George. Or he may just tell the CEO about it. Shocking and...
Read moreAll I needed was my blades sharpened on my lawn mower. We agreed Thursday would be good for pick up and then I paid. The weather was changing and I wanted to pick up my mower on Wednesday so I called and made my request Wednesday morning. Turns out they had to cut off the top of my screws to get my blades off, appropriately two hours of labor, re-drill holes, sharpened my blades and put them back on. Also, one day earlier then I had agreed. They wouldn’t let me pay anymore than I already did and were very professional start to finish. When I dropped off my mower I had run into the owner who seemed to be a “no non-sense guy” and as it turns out that Is exactly how the store is operated. I have shopped at this store on and off over 15 years since we moved out here and we always had a great experience. Thank you and we appreciate...
