Found this restaurant on Open Table, 5 stars with 970+ reviews. We had to try it and so glad we did. Phoenix Kitchen has fabulous cocktails, great food and the staff is very attentive. I can see why it's rated highly. The restaurant has a U-shaped bar when you walk in and a large dining area as well as outdoor dining. Plenty of parking surround the restaurant. Our server was Suzanne, who is friendly, attentive and provided very good service. Actually, all the staff was on top of everything from bringing the dishes straight from the kitchen while they're hot and removing empty plates. The manager Linda came by to check on us., too. All the staff works together. The menu has a great variety and there are nightly specials as well. My husband and I started out with cocktails, he had a smoky old-fashioned and I had a lavender lemondrop. Both were amazing. We shared the oysters Rockefeller with creamed spinach, nduja, breadcrumbs and lemon. I could've ordered six more, so good. We then shared the salad on the specials menu which was a peach salad - grilled peaches, blueberries, arugula, feta and balsamic vinaigrette. It came with toasted pecans but we had those on the side because of me. The salad was sweet and salty and delicious. Hubby had prime rib with double baked potato and roasted brussels sprouts. I have to say this was the winning entrée of the night. The prime rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had the best wood grilled smoky flavor. Not that my entrée wasn't good, it just was not my type of fish and lacked flavor. I had the wood fire grilled cobia with celery root puree and a grilled squash medley. Cobia is a meatier fish like mahi-mahi or swordfish, and I prefer a more tender flaky fish like seabass or halibut. After our meal, we received complimentary glasses of their housemade limoncello. Nice touch! It was the best limoncello. We ended our meal with sharing the banana cream pie. No explanation needed as it was creamy deliciousness. Phoenix Kitchen is a gem and I'm looking forward to going back again. It's very busy so I suggest making reservations. Great find! We will...
Read moreBooked a bday dinner for my wife here during the soft opening. We both agreed it was one of the most disappointing dinners of our 11+ years together. We went into it knowing it was a soft opening. But certain aspects of this meal (mainly food quality) won't be fixed when they open to the public. We ordered the charcuterie, flatbread side, Cheeseburger, 16oz ribeye and for sides Truffle parmesan fries and Crab & poblano elote. Where to begin The flatbread was odd. Not sure why they even serve it the way they do. Skip it. The charcuterie had limited meat and cheese but served with a ton of fruit. Sorry but I don't wanna nibble on fruit before dinner. We had high hopes for our entrees. The "ribeye" hit the table and I immediately had intense regret. It looked white. I still cut into it and divvied it up with my wife. It was 100% a piece of pork. We both spit it out (it wasn't cooked bc it was supposed to be medium rare steak) and sent it back. At which point we were greeted by the waitress and manager asking what the issue was. I assured them it wasn't steak (I've had many Ribeyes in my life and can tell the difference between beef and pork) and they made me feel like I was crazy. It was embarrassing. They ended up not charging us for it and we got a strip steak instead. The most disappointing part of this dinner was the overall cost $200+ for apps, bottle of wine and entrees in Homer Glen. $65 for a 16oz steak? It's $69 for 22oz ribeye at Gibson's!
In my opinion, having eaten in great restaurants in Chicago, NY, SF, Philly, etc. This place will be closed by spring if they don't make wholesale changes.
Lastly, I have to comment on our server. She was the saving grace. The front of the house here is buttoned up and seasoned. She was polite, chatty and really made the experience bearable. The food on the other hand is the key reason why we won't ever go back. Had high hopes as we live less than 10 mins from here. But both me and my wife feel sick not even an hour after leaving there. Unfortunately, this Phoenix will not rise...
Read moreWe decided to try out The Phoenix for the first time for our wedding anniversary dinner, and boy oh boy it did not disappoint. We recently moved to the area from Chicago, so we’ve been spoiled with the best of the best dining experiences to say the least. The Phoenix Kitchen & Cocktails gives Chicago a run for their money in that they’ve perfected the craft of a true modern upscale casual dining experience. Upon arrival we were shown to a private wine cellar, where they had set up our table. This was much to our surprise because all I had done was add a short note on the Open Table reservation about it being our anniversary (rarely do restaurants actually read those notes and act on it). They definitely rolled out the red carpet for us from start to finish. The service was just phenomenal, period. I won’t get into it, but talk about going above and beyond… Now let’s talk food. The prosciutto dates under the snack options are a must try — such a creative spin off your traditional bacon wrapped dates. Make sure you don’t pass up the perfectly cooked pork belly either when considering an appetizer. We went with the chicken piccata as a shared entree and it was not at all what we were expecting. I’d describe this dish as more of a half chicken in a pan sauce. This might be the juiciest chicken I’ve ever sunken my teeth into. You get that perfect balance of salt from the cappers, subtle acid element from the hint of lemon, and that mouthwatering fat from the buttery sauce. The most surprising thing about this dish is that smokey burst you get with each bite. When choosing a cocktail make sure you go with the smoked old fashioned. Just trust me on this one. Do your palate a favor and make sure to add this spot to your “must visit restaurants.” Thank you to the entire staff from back to front of the house for making our anniversary such a...
