I had outpatient surgery and had a negative experience. This is the most dysfunctional hospital that I have ever experienced! The majority of the staff has a "don't care" attitude and no respect for the patient!
They took me to the operating room to for anesthesia and seconds before the anesthesia was in my IV someone comes in the room and demands that they stop and take me back immediately because it is not my turn. This was not just rude, but totally unprofessional!
My Mother wanted to give me a hug prior to going into the operating room the first time (before they were told it was not my turn, and I was returned to the prep and waiting area) and they would not allow it.
They were in a rush to get me in the OR and under anesthesia. I feel that this was inhumane, disrespectful and would have been cruel if I had had a bad reaction to anesthesia, coded and died. This is not compassionate care at all! When I had surgery at Advent Health, they allowed my Mom to give me a kiss and hug prior to going into the OR and being put under anesthesia. I do not understand why the Orlando Health Staff were not more kind and compassionate.
Then they take me back to where I was before when they prepared me. Someone apologized, and I asked them to bring my Mom back to wait with me, since they made her leave my side when they took me to the OR, and they would not.
I then asked if they would at least tell her I was delayed so that she does not worry when I do not come out soon. They claimed that they could not find her. So I asked again for someone to let my Mother know that I did not actually go in for surgery yet.
They told me that they informed my Mother, but I would later find that they either just said they did in order to placate me or informed the wrong family. Not sure which.
My Mother had my belongings, so I could not read a book or anything while I wait. (My Kindle was in my backpack, which was with my Mother in the family waiting area) This was very frustrating since the Nurses refused to bring my Mother back in with me even though they made a mistake.
As a result, I tried to pass time by napping. However, the medical staff decided to congregate in the hallway and have a very loud conversation about the Indiana Mass Shooting and gun ownership. The last thing I wanted to hear before I go in for surgery is how unsafe the world is and how some Nurses bring a gun with them shopping or shop online because they do not feel safe. That is why every time they asked if I wanted the TV on, I declined and told them that I prefer peace and quiet.
Not that I could have watched TV anyway, since my Mom had my eyeglasses, and they would not bring her back to me after aborting my surgery the first time right before putting me under.
Instead of making me comfortable, the medical staff was more interested in socializing with each other and their convenience.
After I woke up, the Nurses were very disorganized and arguing over who was going to do what. My Mother had to tell them to close the curtain so that I could get dressed.
My Mother and I tried to make things easier on everyone by stating that we would prefer to be brought down to the entrance to meet the car together. They refused and insisted on taking us down separately, in spite of that making us very uncomfortable. They would not respect our wishes even thought it would be easier for them.
The Nurses were very unprofessional, which I found disappointing for Orlando Health because at Health Central and other Orlando Health facilities I typically receive 5-star treatment. I expected more from Orlando Health.
Update: I sent my contact info via PM as requested and no one from Orlando Health called me back! When they reply on Google, they want to make it appear that they care and make things right when they do not! I would not recommend to Horizon West to anyone, not even my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had to go to the emergency room on the night of 11/11/23. All the staff were professional and helpful except for the Nurse that was assigned to me (why Iām giving a one star review). His name on my room board was Gary but his badge said Tim. Heās a very tall, fairly large, grey haired man, and appeared to be in his 50ās. Gary/Tim had very bad beside manners. Iām from out of state visiting family (I reside in Georgia) and 27 weeks pregnant. After waiting two hours in my room, he came in (appeared to be in a bad mood) and asked what I was there for. I was half asleep/still inpain and said that I after lifting a bag and feeling a sharp pain my left armpit I then started to experience dizziness and felt like I was going to pass out and that early in the day and throughout it I had chest pain on my left side only and that it was painful to inhale and that it didnāt progress until the evening right before my dizziness presented itself where I felt like I was going to pass out. I also had low blood pressure that i check before going into the ER. He then with an attitude towards me like I was stupid says āso you came in for dizziness and not your chest painā. I told him Iām all baby (Iām a very small woman) so I assumed the chest pain was because of the baby making room and being projected to be big. The discomfort of my pain was manageable because I was still able to do my daily routine until i got the dizziness and felt like I was going to pass out, it felt worse. He then asked if I called my OB and I told him I didnāt because since iām from out of state all she would just tell me to do was what I was doing already which was go to the nearest emergency room. He then very snarky replies āWell that wouldāve been smart to call herā. He then proceeds to put my IV in, the elastic band he tied around my arm to have my vein pop was so tight my arm turned red. I told him it was too tight, he ignored me. I had no energy to argue, after he finished the needle was placed so uncomfortably i had to keep my arm straight and still. After doing tests and Dr.Megan diagnosing me. I saw him again for my discharge. He gave me all my discharge paperwork and then was proceeding to remove my IV. Before he could start, I asked if he could gently remove it because the way he put my IV in was not done well and it was very uncomfortable. He then replies āWell obviously itās uncomfortable, you clearly have a needle in your armā He disregarded my request because he then pulled half of the clear bandage that goes over the IV quickly like a bandaid. He then grabs the IV needle and other half of the clear bandage tightly at the same time and says ā123āand before i could ask what he was doing, he ripped the needle and other half of bandage out of my arm. i currently have a bruise on my arm from the IV which iāve never had happen to me and Iāve had plenty of IVās in my arm and Blood work done and never bruised. Tears poured out of my eyes and he didnāt even apologize, I was so distraught and exhausted. I grab my things and left, as I passed by the nurses station on my way out he was watching a youtube music video on his computer. Maybe he was trying to rush back to continue watching that but he made my experience horrible. He clearly needs more bedside manner training or maybe should seek a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFormal Complaint Regarding Dr. Gregoryās Conduct and Treatment To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the care I received from Dr. Gregory during my recent visit to the emergency room at your facility on [date of visit]. I believe the treatment I experienced was not only inadequate but also fell significantly below the standard of care and compassion patients deserve.
When I arrived at the emergency room, I was in severe pain, which I described as a 10 out of 10. I was crying uncontrollably, my joints were visibly swollen, and my symptoms were well-documented with photographs that I brought with me. Despite explaining that the medications prescribed by my doctor, such as Meloxicam and ibuprofen, were ineffective, Dr. Gregory dismissed my condition as non-emergent. She declined to provide any pain relief or assistance, despite visible evidence of my suffering and the advocacy of Nurse Tim, who acknowledged the need for immediate intervention.
Her dismissive tone and refusal to help were devastating. As someone in excruciating pain, I expected a doctorās compassion and willingness to address my distress, regardless of whether my condition was life-threatening. A doctorās promise and training are to care for people, no matter the type of emergency they present with, especially when their pain is so severe that they express a desire to end their life, as I did that night.
Additionally, Dr. Gregory took photographs of my body using her personal cell phone without my explicit consent. I found this both inappropriate and alarming. I demand clarification on your hospitalās policy regarding such actions, as this seems like a serious violation of my privacy.
As an influencer with 1.1 million followers on Instagram and millions more across other social media platforms, I thought long and hard that night about using my platform to make the public aware of the treatment I received at Orlando Health. However, given that I live in the area and my daughter, who is also a doctor, was out of town and unable to assist me, I decided against taking that step. Nevertheless, I feel it is my responsibility to report this incident and demand an investigation into Dr. Gregoryās conduct to ensure that no other patient experiences such disregard in their time of need.
Emergency care is not only for those with strokes or heart attacks; it is for anyone who arrives in severe distress seeking help. Pain management is a critical aspect of emergency medicine, and the care I received was far from acceptable.
I ask that this incident be reviewed promptly and that I be informed of the actions taken to address this situation.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Sincerely,...
