I have played and worked at a lot of game stores in Houston since 2011. I have to say that Board and Brew is where gaming is at. A great community from all walks of life, with a vast and varying degrees of knowledge of games, lore and hobbying.
Great blend of casual and competitive players (a term I use loosely, because if you are playing a game, you are competing...congrats!). The staff are on point, they help you with game knowledge and hobby related questions. They have two hobby areas, one that lets you airbrush and try out paints before buying; and another area in the main game room; both with multiple lamps.
Best terrain in Houston, hands down. I challenge you to find a single store with some expert level of painted and constructed terrain. You wont find it.
