Laughlin’s Outdoor Renovations LLC — Local services in Houston

There’s a lot of good to say about Brandon and Laughlins Outdoor team. Communicative, polite, and an overall great attitude. After a bunch of initial back-and-forth and contract adjustments, I hired their team to do a full outdoor renovation. The scope of the project was to remove existing sod, grade the land, install drainage, and finish off with a bunch of limestone garden beds, paver pathways, and turf. Everything seemed to be going well initially. I expressed concerns with grading and drainage in the beginning but Brandon assured me that everything was going to work out. So we pushed forward and began to prep and lay down turf, It was at this point I knew I couldn’t trust Laughlins Outdoor Renovations to complete the job. When you install turf, there’s a certain way to do it, and without getting into the details, the way it was installed was completely inappropriate. At that point, I asked Brandon to stop everything and let me find somebody else to finish the turf. Keep in mind at this point, the entire property was nearly prepped and complete. Everything was graded, drainage was installed, decompose granite was laid down and so was a weed barrier.

Brandon and I worked things out after some difficult conversations and he committed to come back to finish the work and tie up some loose ends. He asked for final payment (even though our contract explicitly states that I did not need to pay until the project is complete) and I advanced the payment. HE NEVER CAME BACK.

I am now left with a pile of rocks outside my property that need to be distributed. I have some weeds and grass growing through the weed barrier throughout the property. Also, the drainage that was installed is not working properly. I am left with standing water in multiple locations during heavy downpours. I tried reaching out to Brandon to help finish the work and honor his word/warranty, but he was unresponsive.

I’m grateful that Laughlins OR issues invoices through Chase and I was able to pay with a credit card because after an investigation with the bank, the bank credited me for the lost funds.

I really wanted to continue working with Brandon. He’s a good kid. But I cannot recommend him to anyone especially for an outdoor renovation that involves the “complexity”...
