I wish I could give this place a good review, since it's the only butcher in a 25 mile radius of me, but I can't. Every time I'd call I'd get different information, by the time I actually placed an order they called me the same day and said the order I had just placed had been sitting there for 6 months. Then I said I'd made the order that day but they had no record of an order placed that day. I finally got the order straightened out, or so I thought. They were supposed to call me when it got in. Well, they called someone. Or so I was told. I was told they had called me and had a full conversation with me, a conversation I had no memory of and that wasn't logged in my phone. Well, I've finally confirmed that yes my order is in, I go there and wait in line, I get up and say who I am and wait for them to bring up the order slip. The girl comes up and asks if I'm Pat Mikle. Since that isn't even close to my name I said no, a few minutes later she comes up and asks for the phone number, which is the only thing written correctly. Honestly if what I'd been ordering hadn't been butcher extras for my dogs that probably would have been wrong too. For all I know it was, but my dogs were happy chewing on it and despite them continually saying I had stated I wanted them smoked and me having to clarify multiple times to each person I talked to that no, I wanted raw, they managed to get that right. The name might not have bugged me so much except that during every conversation I was asked to state and spell my name multiple times each call, and despite having my phone number correct they still couldn't manage to call me. And to top it all off, when checking out I handed over my money and waited for change and the cashier said "have a nice day" and went to work with the next customer, I had to ASK if I was going to get change at all before she even acknowledged that I was owed it. Next time I'm calling farms to see if I can get what I want. I can only imagine the headache I would've had if I'd been ordering any type of meat that had to be cooked, cut, or seasoned a...
Read moreI went to Maplewood Meats for the very first time yesterday with a friend to pick up his venison. We drove from Northern Door County and misread the hours on the website, expecting you to be open until 6pm. We arrived at 5:30pm and were surprised to find the building closed and at that point realized our error. I decided it couldn't hurt to knock on the door to ask if there was any way someone could still help us and I was pleasantly surprised when the young boy mopping by the front door told me to wait while he went to find a manager. The manager came out and opened the door for us. She was wonderful (as were the rest of the staff) and happily retrieved our venison for us. She made sure that we only stepped on the carpet and not the recently mopped floor so we didn't slip and had a smile on her face the entire time even though our presence meant she would be at work longer than she would have been otherwise. It was an incredible display of customer service and I will most definitely spread the word and bring my business to you from this point forward. THANK YOU MAPLEWOOD...
Read moreApril 2020 update: We still make every effort to get to Maplewood’s at least monthly. Great selection, fantastically organized, and now- in the midst of the Corona situation, incredibly organized. Service is currently curbside- staff come out to your vehicle and they run the order inside and staff get your order to you in only a couple minutes. I remain impressed. In the current restrictions and challenging considerations- they continue to deliver impressive service (in addition to providing delicious meats). This is a truly first lass organization who demonstrates high customer value. Kudos to Maplewood for all their ‘extra’ work!
2013 Review: You will absolutely enjoy Maplewlood. The service is fast (even if you take a number that is 20 away from being served, you won't wait 5 minutes). The meats are fantastic. It you like Brats, you have to try the Brat Paties. I haven't had some this...
