Many say customer service no longer exists. Imagine walking into a grocery store to a man behind the counter with a long white beard, huge smile, genuine eyes and an inviting whistle of a familiar old song. “Folks, is there anything I can help you with? Its great to see you again.” As you walk around the corner you are met by a manager holding a clipboard as she asks in an upbeat tone, “How are you doing today?” Any question you have is met with an answer and help to aid you.

Imagine being asked if you would like help out the door with your groceries and shopping in a store where the employees know you by name. Imagine a store where the owners pay close attention to their customers’ likes and dislikes and fill the store accordingly. Imagine a little grocery store that is brimming with options and filled with all the bests.

My husband and I have been customers of Idaho City Grocery for 8 years. We have travelled all over the nation and have never come upon such a rarity as ICG. From their Grab and Go cooler that is filled with fresh home cooked options daily, to the racks of sweatshirts, hats, and gifts, to the warm and friendly atmosphere, ICG truly is a gem in Idaho.

The owners (Bobby and Teishia) take special care to run their store with love and devotion to the entire operation. They are in the store daily aiding their employees and getting to know them. They put their entire hearts into making sure our community have our needs met. Even during Covid, we never went without. No one will ever comprehend the hours they spend creating something so unique and special.

ICG is a store that requires more than one visit just to see all it has to offer. You will be happy to oblige because the experience is so unique and uplifting. This has truly been our experience for 8 years. We are convinced there is not a store anywhere else like this.

Before moving to Idaho City, two and a half years ago, I Googled every aspect of the town that I could find. There was a news clip of Bobby Matthews in front of his grocery store following a big snowstorm. Bobby was so positive and spoke very highly of the community. He related that everyone in I.C. helped everyone else out in time of need and that is why he loved his new town so much. He had only been here a year at that time. Well, he has held up his end of the bargain, exemplarily so! Not only has he and his staff made THE very best of a small-town country store, it is a fun place to visit! We have never experienced such friendly, helpful and efficient staff anywhere. If, for some reason, they don't have an item you are seeking, they will get it for you! When the pandemic hit, Bobby made sure one of our senior citizens had a 50# sack of flour so she didn't have to go to a crowded store in Boise. One of our neighbors needed a large ham for a holiday and he got them one in two days. We were amazed from the first week we were here, that this store usually had whatever we needed. Even my favorite pie crust mix!! Bobby's meat counter is THE best anywhere as he cuts his meat in the store and makes specialty items all year long. His steaks are superb. Also, my husband (of Irish decent) has noticed that his selection of high quality liquor offered is better than any large liquor store he has ever been in, here in the US or abroad. So, truly, you need to stop in and have a look-see if you are traveling on Idaho state highway 21 through our charming old gold mining town in the mountains above Boise. The store is always well-stocked with a great selection of fresh produce, quality meats, and all the essentials we need.
