Indianapolis Violins — Local services in Indianapolis

I've been renting an instrument with this local shop for about two years. I have been there a couple of times for string replacements or questions since it was the first string instrument I've ever had, and they have always been very helpful and never charged any kind of hidden fee for anything. They've even given me free mutes. In the time since I've been renting with them I have had very bad luck with credit cards going missing--it's happened twice since I've been renting from IV--and both times they were very understanding and did not charge any penalties. Adding to the fact that the instrument rental fee is not very high and half of the rental payments accrue toward the purchase of the instrument, this local business has really stunned me with their fair pricing and a human element that is missing at so many bigger companies. I am very disappointed with Indianapolis Violins. I’m a performance major at DePauw University and have been going to them for the past 4 years since I can’t always go home to get my bow rehaired. Since I have been at DePauw the prices of bow rehairs have gotten disgustly high. Charging STUDENTS $90 (generally rehairs are $40-$60) for a bow rehair is not right. Not only is the price wrong but each rehair I’ve received from this place has not been very good. I have hairs coming out in the first week of a rehair and the cork at the tip of my bow has come out. Indianapolis Violins' staff have always treated me with kindness and respect. When I started lessons with a new instructor and she recommended a different cello they let me turn in the current rental for a warmer sounding one, no questions asked. I really appreciated this since I'm newer to the instrument and I'm going off what my new instructor communicates to me, not what I know or am able to descern from my own playing.

I've rented two prior instruments from them in the past, another cello and a violin. Both experiences were great and they've always been quick to respond and offer assistance if needed.
