We hiked the path in mid-Sept. The bugs weren't an issue at all. There was very little evidence of birds but there was a wonderful panoply of fungi, mosses, and lichen to observe. It is a fairly easy walk down to the falls as long as one can navigate steps. The path is wide and stable. At the end, there's a platform for enjoying the falls. What goes down must come back up but with a few stops here and there, we did well with the hike back up. (we are moderately fit). There were two benches places at a few spots along the steepest climb. At no time was my fear of heights triggered and I think a walking stick might prove useful but I didn't feel...
