Under no circumstance should you take your vintage Airstream to Jackson Center. I paid over $5000 to have a door fixed that fit perfectly except for a small corner at the right bottom where someone tried to pry it open, and it allowed water to seep through and rotted the floor in front of the door. After having the trailer back home after 8 months or so, I took a peek inside and to my surprise, the new floor was stained with water again. I called immediately and was told the work was only good for 60 days. (Keep in mind, I spent over $17,000 total on this trip to Jackson Center.)
Then I really start examining the door, and realize it fits worse than it ever had- the new seal is way too big, forcing the door out away from the rest of the skin when you close it, the tip of the door had actually been BROKEN and gray sealant used to try to hold it on, and I noticed a ton of large bolts had been added to the door hinge which I didn't understand, had never been necessary before, and looks like a godd*amn cobbled up mess.
I finally was able to take my Airstream to Helena, Ohio today to the people who really know old Airstreams, and they immediately recognized my door frame was broken and had been pieced back together. MY DOOR FRAME WAS NOT BROKEN BEFORE I TOOK IT TO JACKSON CENTER. Putting two and two together, I realized the tip of the aluminum that I found broken off must have happened at the same time the door frame was broken, which had to happen when or after Jackson Center took that door off my camper to work on it.
Then I go back over my invoice and find one sentence where they say they took the door apart to repair a cracked frame! They cracked the frame! It functioned perfectly when I took it for service. It didn't need half a dozen bolts and angle iron to hold it together at the hinge, as it has now, it was perfect the way it was! We used the camper for 20 years, I think we would have known if the door frame was broken! Now, not only does the door still leak, and the new wood they replaced now all soaked with water again, but they broke my beautifully fitting door, and essentially devalued my Airstream that was worth well over $20K to $0 unless I can find a replacement door (which P&S says will be approx $4k and that's IF they can find one.)
I'm so bitter about this experience (which I'm sure occurred because I was a solo woman trying to deal with this myself) my next step is to begin consulting attorneys about it.
They think they are not liable.
First, I contacted Jackson Center well within a year of the repairs to tell them something was very wrong with the water still leaking in. Then today P&S tells me my door had been broken and tried to fix back, and it could not be done, and that is why I'm having problems. I believe you have a year to file suit AFTER the discovery of property damage, which I only just discovered today. I spent $17,000 with this company only to get a camper back that still leaks and now has a ruined door AND they weren't honest that they broke it to start with.
After this, I'm very concerned about the new axles they installed. If they are willing to do this over my door, what the hell kind of an axle job did they do?
The "seal" job Jackson Center charged me over $3000 for was just smeared on gray caulk, no care taken, no neatness, no neat lines, it's literally just smeared on like they could have given a crap less. Ceiling vent STILL leaks.
I am very, very angry, I'm willing to provide pictures for anyone who is interested, and I will also be doing an in-depth Youtube video documenting everything I just stated.
ETA: I just found close-up photos on my phone taken the day before I delivered this Airstream to Jackson Center showing a perfectly fitted door with zero damage to the hinge, zero damage to door frame, all rivets in hinge are original and perfect including the hinge hardware. There is not much difference between what happened to me and being mugged...
Read moreWe just had a terrific experience at the Airstream Factory Service Center in Jackson Center, Ohio. It might sound strange to say we had a good time at the service department, but we did. From the moment we pulled into the complimentary Terraport to camp with full hookups, to the check-in process and our interactions with our tech (Jordan) and the front desk team, our experience was pleasant and even enjoyable. Airstream made the process super easy.
We booked our appointment online and provided a list of items we wanted checked—we purchased our 2023 Pottery Barn Airstream about 11 months ago, so we are under warranty. A member of the Airstream team contacted us and quickly responded to questions. We even got an email a couple days before our appointment, asking if we wanted to add to our list.
The morning of our appointment, we stayed in our complimentary camping spot until a technician picked up our trailer and pulled it by tractor into the service bay at 7 AM. That’s when we met our technician, Jordan. He walked through our trailer and reviewed our list with us. Jordan was very professional. By the way, most of our items were minor, some cosmetic. We even added another item to the list at the morning walk through. Jordan explained that he would order parts and get right to work. We were to come back around 3 PM.
After enjoying breakfast at a local place, we headed to the Mothership—the Airstream Heritage Center, which includes the Airstream factory and a museum. Be sure to pre-book the free factory tour online. The tours do fill up! The museum is free if you are having Airstream work done, but the cost is minimal, if you are not. We thoroughly enjoyed both the factory tour and museum. By the time we finished, it was time to go meet Jordan for an update.
The waiting room at the service center is comfortable and offers complimentary water and coffee and light snacks and assorted beverages for purchase. Our repairs took a second day, so our trailer was returned to our camping spot and picked up again the next morning.
Our customer satisfaction is off the charts! Jordan did an amazing job with our Airstream. Thank you to all on the Airstream team: Jordan and his coworkers in the service center, the factory tour guide, the museum staff and even the women who work at the coffee counter at the museum made this a wonderful experience. We look forward to returning in the future. We are leaving Jackson Center, Ohio,...
Read moreGetting to the Airstream Factory Service Center is a pilgrimage. Securing a date to have your coach serviced can be a six month or more wait. I opted for a February repair date, which had more openings available. If you choose a winter month, understand that Jackson center Ohio can be icy and snow. Working with Josh Aldrich to set up my date, my repair and warranty needs was frictionless. If arrive on the weekend, there is no one to give you your identifying tag. You will need to be there Monday morning at 7 AM to get the tag to put on your coach. If you were having service done, you can camp for free in the Terra port. Which is immediately located behind the factory service center. I advise against camping, instead leave your coach on the premises. As each morning the technician will make you leave your camper and you’ll have to find someplace to go during the day and then they will bring it back out to you. This will shorten the amount of time they have to work on your camper. It’s best to let them leave it in the service bay for the entire repair. You need to arrive early on the day of your service and be present in the waiting room after they have brought your coach in to the service bay. The service tech will come out and escort you to your coach and discuss the items that you have to be repaired or warranty service. My technician was Ethan and he was thorough and respectful of our one-year-old Airstream. You can stay at a local hotel or grab an Airbnb in nearby Wapakoneta, Ohio . Your technician will call you at the end of each day that your coach is in the service bay and detail and update you on what was done and what is remaining on the list. Full disclosure, this is not the cheapest service work you’ll ever have done on your Airstream. If you’re having any modifications or work done outside of warranty, you will pay a full hourly rate for the work to be done. The work done on our Airstream was done correctly and professionally. Ethan could not have been more professional and detailed in his work. The time to get work done at the factory service center are in the winter months. There was no one in the waiting room when I was there. Bringing your coach to the Airstream factory service center is a commitment and an expensive experience. If you do not trust your dealer to do this type of work, you should be taking your Airstream to the Factory Service Center in Jackson Center,...
