I took off work to go to my scheduled appointment to take my ASVAB test. Upon arriving my recruiter calls and says I might not be able to test. I waited an hour for him to call back and say’s it’s fine I can ring the bell to test. After getting scanned in I had to wait 30 minutes to speak with someone and I was confused as to why. They had me waiting that whole time just to say I couldn’t test. Then asked if I could come back tomorrow. I mentioned that I have TO WORK and can’t keep taking off, HOPING that I will be able to take the test. They said if I‘m willing to wait to take the night test I have to wait a couple more hours, I agreed. then they said that I wasn’t able to test again. It was so much back and forth, and mind you my name was on the schedule for that day but they over booked and when they over book they do not notify you prior to your arrival. Their system is very inconsistent and it’s inconsiderate because they assume everyone is a teenagers who can just stop their lives to come in, or that we don’t work. They will remove who ever from the scheduled appointment’s if THEY overbook with no notice or explanation. On top of the they are extremely rude…nasty...
Read moreI just want to say that The process and getting in was okay my experience was Good personally But my only complaint are the staff and security they were extremely Rude and unprofessional especially when people are only asking for help and direction. I went in this morning and the security was giving everyone a extremely hard time and insulting Young peoples intelligence and even witnessed one of them Talk down on someone’s mother just for walking through the Door (which wasn’t even that serious) and even Laughing and picking on Children…. From a GROWN MAN I expect more maturity and humility especially if you’re in a position of power. The Front desk lady’s (Who was in a U.S Navy outfit) was literally the Rudest Lady I had ever witnessed. They treat Like a Number and simply a Product not a Human being. I understand that working a Government job you need to be more Sincere and firm and straight forward but just because you’re having a Bad day don’t mean you got to Make everyone else miserable especially Children. If you don’t like your job Quit. It’s that simple. People like you are the reason why People turn away from the military. That’s all I wanted to say....
Read moreDress nicely, treat everyone with respect, and walk with confidence..that's the way I see how a future enlistee in the military should present themselves to the MEPS. However, what makes Jacksonville's MEPS so different, is that it takes all of those values and carries them right back at you.
The facility is clean, the staff is very complacent and nice (and extremely funny, medical I'm looking at you!), and the whole process is easy if you make it easy for yourself.
My best advice for any future enlistee, as an airman, is to get a good night's rest at the hotel, and to eat a decent meal with lots of protein and fruit (watch the greasy stuff). Also, try and make some friends with the other recruits in the process! Everyone there is trying to achieve something different, and you won't find another MEPS like this one..that's for sure.
(By the way, if the MEPS customer service people are reading this, the only criticism I can give you is that the food was kinda "meh". I know it's probably not that important, but my roast beef sandwich wasn't all too...
