I want to start off by saying that so far, we are satisfied with the work done. We had a combination of central air and ductless mini-splits installed, and Paxos did the electrical. So far, so good. Can't say the same about the pricing. We were given a day rate of $960, plus supplies (which came out to less than $200) for the job, yet the initial estimate was for $2000. We called Mike to discuss, and he explained that he liked to build in a cushion for the estimate just in case his crew (two guys) ran into any difficulties with the job (trouble getting through concrete, etc.) He wasn't sure if they'd be able to finish in one day. Plus, the day rate was for a 6-hour day, which was changed to 8 hours after we protested. We thought this was all a bit strange, but this is the electrician our AC installer uses, so we thought it best to stick with him. The day of the job, the two-man crew arrived at the house around 8 AM. Seemed like nice enough guys, and they got to it. My wife stopped by a little after noon and asked one of the guys how it was going. He basically said, "I think OK; I just do what they tell me." So this guy was not the master electrician on the two-man crew. When my son got home around 3, they were done and gone. So, they were at the house for 7 hours, and including time at the Paxos shop (we were told the clock started ticking on our day rate when the guys showed up at the shop in the morning to load up the van), we were within the 8 hours for the day rate. But when we got the invoice, it was for $1500 with an included $250 discount. We asked why it was so high, given that it was a one-day job, and Mike explained that he also showed up at the house for a few hours (sometime around the times my wife and son were there and after I left in the morning) to help out so they would finish the job in one day. And, of course, we had to pay for that. Except we were under the belief we were paying a DAY rate, not an hourly rate. And why would we pay to have two master electricians on the job? My wife's father is a retired master electrician and none of this made sense to him OR us. Mike explained he had given us a $250 discount as an accommodation, but the $1750 price made less sense than the $1500 cost. Bottom line is, Mike showed up for the job on his own, and while we appreciate that the job was done well and in one day, we did not know it was going to cost extra to have him there. And that's because we agreed to a day rate for the crew, not an hourly rate. But Mike's explanation basically was that he needed to make money on the job, so his involvement was extra. We went back and forth a bit but we were going in circles, and for the $200 or so we felt we were overcharged we decided to cut our losses and just pay the invoice. If you use these guys, be sure you get a VERY clear estimate up front, and make sure all possible additional charges are explained in advance. We even had other contractors we use tell us to pay the amount we felt was right, and let Paxos have to go through small claims court for the balance if they wished, but we ultimately decided to pay. 3 stars because the work was done well, but I'd rather give them 2.5 with 2.5 taken off as an...
Read moreThe storm that occurred in mid February caused damage to the power line connected to our house. The power company killed our power due to fire hazard at 7pm Sunday night. In a panic to get help to get the line fixed due to the freezing temperatures and housing two young kids and pets, I found Paxos Electric as a search for emergency electrician. I called and left a message and received a call from John within 15-20 minutes. He said he would be able to send a crew at 7am Monday morning. And just as promised they arrived, assessed the damage and fixed the problem within hours.
Then we were fighting with the power company for them to come connect our power and they kept saying we needed the town construction person to inspect the work but it was President’s Day and the offices were closed. John and Nicole called the power company on our behalf which is above and beyond service. The power company refused to come out but John and Nicole continued to help. We were desperate to keep our house warm for the pets and our kids and asked if they can install a transfer switch for a generator Monday afternoon. The crew that helped us in the morning came out after their shift was suppose to be done to help us.
John, Nicole, Ernest, Trever and Joe we are truly thankful for helping our family during a very stressful time and working above and beyond for us. Your communication during the days, swift and stellar repair work and installation work really won us over!!! Thank you guys, you...
Read moreThis review is, in effect, binary. Owner of Paxos, John, is a gem - unequivocally professional and always accommodating! He always endeavors to get what I request as expeditiously as possible. I work with Paxos for generator maintenance - installing a generator and having Paxos service it once a year - a no brainer!! Most recently, I requested installation of a light fixture - I needed to illuminate a photo of twins in my family. The Paxos Team of Jon & Trevor - got to my home on time, began to work with dispatch. Jon assumed a leadership role - and poor - Trevor had to climb into a tiny crawl space the size of a turkey!! Neither Jon nor Trevor - who worked quietly & unabashedly in tandem - never uttered 1 concern, never talked or complained under their breath - in short - never allowed me to feel anything but confidence and competence! PAXOS IS THE REAL DEAL - the guys cleaned every bit of dust, debris - IT WAS A FIRST-CLASS ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCE. IF YOU ARE A PERFECTIONIST, AS AM I, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS - CALL PAXOS!! Best, Dr. Linda...
