Course is in pretty good shape. Started on front 9 and it took us 1 hour to play 4 holes and NO ranger in sight!! Hole 9 ranger comes up to us and asks us to speed up play. I stated clearly…then you need to address that with the group in front of us!!! We waited and waited on them for the front 9. We skipped the clubhouse to get around them and the ranger had already instructed the group in front of us to speed up a little. We’re playing at a good pace for 2 holes and we had a player that just had that 1 bad hole on the round. I’m sure we’ve all done that!! Lol. Ranger pulls up again and says speed up play… I almost LOST IT!! I’m a very level headed person. I looked at him and said in a stern voice… we’re playing like we always do and golfers are never waiting on us!! Well the group in front of you are on the next tee box. I said ok so we had one bad hole!! WHERE WAS YOU THE WHOLE FRONT 9 WHEN WE WAITED EVERY SINGLE HOLE!!?!? From that moment I couldn’t keep score because I was being pissed. Trust me… don’t care if I ever go back to that place again!!! I understand the speed of play… but before you call us out TWICE… get your ranger out there to make sure EVERYBODY is playing up to speed!!! Pine Oaks will not be getting any more of my money. The Crossing is a much better course anyway....
Read moreWhile the condition of the course was meh, they have absolutely no sense for pace of play. It took my group an hour to play three holes. A member from our group called the Clubhouse to let them know that a group in front of us had left clubs two separate times and had to go back, they spent 5 minutes just talking at their carts for every single shot they made.
A "ranger" drove to the t box we were waiting on. Stared at them for 3 minutes and drove away. 2 holes later I called, I was told it was a busy Sunday.... they are in the middle of Johnson City, TN so, they wouldn't know a busy Sunday if it smacked them in the lips. This club would sink in an actual golf state.
A group of walkers stayed on our backs for 9 holes, as we left, there was a group of 8 teeing off together. It was an absolute joke. First and last time at that poor representation of golf.
In wise the words of Golf Professional Manolo Vega "Suck the game fasterrr,...
Read moreI have been playing golf at Pine Oaks since 2000. It is a fun course to play with many tough holes. The only easy holes on the front are 1 and 2. It's challenging after that. You can walk the front with ease but walking the back is a challenge. The back nine has three easy holes, 13, 14, and 16. The rest are either tricky or tough or both. Greens are always pretty good, bunkers are so so. I never get tired of playing this course. They have a nice practice facility and the staff is excellent. The maintenance crew does a great job keeping the course looking good and playable at all times (except for the few weeks after plugging). They are a knowledgeable team, they are very good at "growing grass" and their dedication is apparent everywhere you look. This is a fine local course and we are fortunate to have it. I am grateful to the City of Johnson City for its hard work and investment in one of our many treasures here in upper...
