I am going to give you the real deal if you can read and want to know. First off, it is sad that most of the businesses on the installation are mismanaged and set up and designed to rip the military members off. However, be grateful, because unlike those others, The Commissary is not that way and it has very good employees overall and a clean well stocked store that is not fully privatized which is probably for the best!
You still MUST check dates for yourself though!!! I have spoken with them about it many times and got told that the stocking contractors seldom rotate the inventory for them and so many times over the last four years here I have encountered entire shelves of expired product be it orange juice or snacks or protein shakes, etc. Nearly every trip to this store I find out of date items as I guess I like less popular products or Injust always have bad luck. But in my experience, you have to be vigilant to protect your family, friends, and self from getting bad food and possibly getting sick or wasting your money as it is just not their strong point.
Only the meat department is good about dates and marking things down. You cam trust them as I never had issues with met department here. The Produce is usually not fresh as I guess they get irregular sales volume or have trouble with vendors and all, not sure. But in my experience, the produce never gets marked down and the dates on the salad bags and back wall of juices and packaged perishables are often expired or about to expire in many cases without mark downs, so please check and verify. I think they just have limited staffing and budget because this is run by the government so you got to take the bad with the good as they are not privatized, so in turn they offer us the most fair prices, but they lack in some aspects as it is a trade off. I learned the hard way having to make returns almost every other week in the beginning of living here because I trusted the contractors knew how to rotate stock. The management is understanding though and they always kindly process your return and go take down the expired products when you alert them. But hopefully the contractors will be better trained or held accountable as you have to rotate stock in the grocery business. It is just a given!
The deli and bakery employees here are great and will make you MTO sandwich for breakfast or lunch. Sushi kiosk is also really good and always fresh and friendly service and greet you when you walk by them.
Just watch the dates on the main aisles and go to Dillons for most of your produce as they struggle with perishable items like that here. But for on base business, this is the most fair prices and one of the best. The managers even opened this store for us after a snow storm this year as they really do care about us and make sure we have groceries on base! Not something you are likely to find in the private sector - so again be patient with them and appreciate what we got as these are good people who are trying and care about soldiers and out families as they are us basically!
Tip the kids learning to work who bag groceries and fetch carts as they are not always the best trained or motivated, but they are just young and learning and work off tips I am told so try to look out for them or use self check out and let elderly veterans utilize them for bagging their groceries.
And good luck trying to open the plastic bags at self check out!! Lol!! Those things will drive you insane! Overall, this is a great store though and really good people in charge! Hope this info helps everyone! Support the Commissary as it really is a...
Read moreI do self check out because I like to bag my own groceries.
Yesterday, like I’ve always done . I did a split payment. The computer froze and the attendant (male) decided to restart my check out, the other employee (female) that was already helping me got into it with the attendant because she was going to suspend my transaction, and he messed up the process. Delaying me to stay in store longer than needed.
So I paid with my door dash debit card , and it took the money so she told she would have to ring me up again. And I told her that they still had my money it was taken from my account. So she decided to blame me for the computer freezing that i should have know the computer doesn’t take split payments. Waited for 30ish minutes to get my stuff refunded.
today 9/12 I come back to rebuy the things I needed to purchase yesterday but due to the inconvenience I ran out of time and needed to leave.
So the same lady , came up to me trying to redirect me to the register assuming I had a split payment, and again tried to blame me for the register problem. And I said I don’t have one , and than had the audacity to asked me loudly if I was paying with WICC giving me attitude .
Last time I checked I don’t need to disclose anything with anyone about how I pay for my groceries, and for her to A. To blame me For their computer problems, I have previous receipts to show that I have indeed made split payments B. For her to try to embarrass me Assuming that I was paying with WICC
and of course, when I tried reaching out to customer...
Read moreClean store, friendly, helpful staff, GREAT PRICES!!! Especially since 2014. Love their international food section, and natural food section, REALLY APPRECIATE the meat department, and the hard work they put into special orders and the variety of cut selections. Also really appreciate the produce section and the variety of vegetables and fruits, spice section, with spices from all over the world, and the fresh bread-and-butter bakery and DELI, with wonderful BOARS HEAD products. Since many of our citizen soldiers come from nations far away, I really appreciate how this store adapts and strives to serve the families and some of our "taste of home cravings. " I mostly find everything I need here, and can ask for it, many times, they are able to special order it. Thanks be to God for all the employees and their families, tland specialshout out to all the grocery baggers and staff who make it all happen behind the scenes, keeping the store well...
