Harding's Market — Local services in Kalamazoo Charter Township

Hardings on E. Main in kalamamazoo. VERY unfriendly.... Hardings Friendly Market sure does not fit the name. I go in there a few times a month every time I have been in there there's been somebody that has always been very nasty rude from cashiers right down to the bottle return person. I haven't once yet been in that store or somebody hasn't given me a hard time I carry a bag type purse not even a bag it's all closed up buckles zippers Etc. This last time I went in there a few days ago I was told that I had to leave my purse up front which had all my money and medications in it this was not a backpack it was not a hobo Sack or over-the-shoulder bag it was a regular purse period filled with all my belongings and a caregiver so I have the people that I take care of all of their belongings in it and I was followed around the store and told that I had to leave my purse up front when I was only going in to get a loaf of bread. I also have a registered service dog service harness service papers and certificate she's always in her bag or her doggy stroller I was told that I couldn't take her in there even with all the proof that I could. Again she's certified and I had all the proof and information with me. Last but not least I took in some cans to return just the other day and the guy that works out in the bottle return area got really nasty with me. I would not recommend this Harding's to no one if you can steer away from it you'd be better off. Very unfriendly people. The day will give someone like me a hard time but yeah I go in there about 5 years ago because I live close to the area and it was fast and convenient just to walk into a man hanging out in the bottle return area and was acting very creepy following me around following me through the store and when I went up to the service desk to tell someone nothing was done about it so they will let people like that hang out in the store but when I go in to go shopping they give me a hard time and it's not been once it's not been twice but it's been every single time...

I had the great misfortune of choosing your store to shop at on Monday, 11/13/23 at 8:45pm. I didn’t realize that your store closed at 9pm. I am a chore provider for the State of Michigan and brought my client in to buy a few meals for himself while shopping for a few things I needed as well. The store was great and the shopping experience itself was superb….however, the check out experience was anything but friendly….it was the worst I’ve ever experienced anywhere I’ve shopped. Because we didn’t reach the check out until 9:05pm as my client is disabled and moves a bit slower, the cashier was so rude that it made us uncomfortable. She explained that your store was a “shop for a couple of items” store only that close to closing time and not a store to grocery shop. She kept asking us to scoot our items closer because “didn’t we see that there was no belt?!”, and the entire time we were checking out she did nothing but complain about how long it took us - she also let us know that she was ready to go home and we were preventing her from doing so. Her displeasure and anger towards us was no secret! I will never ever shop at this location again and will be sure that my employer knows that this IS NOT a store to bring clients to. I will continue my patronage at Harding’s Woodbridge, Harding’s on Westnedge, Harding’s on Drake Road and my favorite store - Harding’s in Oshtemo, all of which are “friendly markets” that don’t discriminate against handicapped individuals . Cork st Hardings very friendly great people to deal with. Hardings on E main a total different opinion. Very unfriendly. Told me I had to leave my purse at the front of the store which let me add had all my cash and my medications in it. Would not let me walk through the store with my purse. And I have a service dog that I have been in there on several occasions and they know me they recognized me and every time I go in there they still harass me about the dog even though I showed them the certificate the tags and her service vest. Down right to the bottle return I went in there two different occasions to return bottles it's a self do it yourself thing as returning the bottles and the guy that works in the area clean up I put all of the empty boxes in the garbage container and smash them down neatly so they were out of the way and he came in right behind me and was making ugly gestures and taking them out of the garbage containers and Swinging them as hard as it could towards the wall. I was very confused as to what I was supposed to do with the empty containers I guess throw them on the floor...
