This trip was the highlight of our family trip to Kauai for so many reasons. First, Koa is a fantastic boat captain. The day of our trip Kauai's south beaches were being hit by 10-14 foot waves...we were a bit worried about conditions and when we got to the boat harbor about 45 minutes early there was a single boat out at the entrance, studying the (very large) waves..guess who...Koa! As someone with fresh and saltwater boating experience, it showed me that he was a safety conscious captain and was putting in the work before we arrived to ensure our safety by thinking through his plan. He got us out and back in the harbor with ease and he perfectly predicted the conditions we saw as we made our way up the Nepali coast (so much smoother once we got outside the harbor). He also predicted where we'd see dolphins (more than we'd ever seen in one place!) and got us in all the sea caves with no other boats in sight. His expertise comes from his time on that water. Second, Koa is an amazing tour guide and can really help paint the picture of what that coast may have looked like hundreds and thousands of years back and helps you really get an appreciation for the bravery of those who first settled and thrived on the land. He pointed out elements of early settlement as well as how geologic events created that beautiful coast. Third, Koa simply creates a wonderful vibe for the boat trip with his awesome music playlist and positive attitude. You can't help but have an amazing time and come away thankful to have met someone who loves what he is doing and can safely share a little bit of true island paradise! Our youngest son found Koa and Komohana Charters as we were planning our trip to Kauai several months ago and said 'we have to go out with this company to see the Napali coast they are the best'...and he was right. If you are considering a tour of this coast, paying a little bit extra vs some of the larger tours for the personal experience and expertise of Koa will be the best money you'll spend. One the best experiences my wife and myself have ever had vacationing. We wanted Komohana from the beginning and are so glad we went to the legendary Captain Koa. Extremely funny dude with amazing personality, and extremely knowledgeable with the area. We loved how he explained the history of certain beaches, etc. I thought the sea caves boating experience for me in Capri Italy was amazing, but this was on another level. We got to enter the largest sea caves in the world and all of them were spectacular especially the open ceiling cave. The Napali coast is a top 3 coast in the world and needs to be seen with your very own eyes. Honopu beach sea arch was incredible and to see atleast 100 dolphins all at once to end it off made our trip. None of this would be possible without the skill set of Koa’s navigating on the ocean and his perfect size boat for this incredible experience. Plus Koa is the first one to leave the harbour when we went so we saw everything before everyone else without other boats in the way. If there’s one thing you NEED to do on Kaua’i , it’s visit the Na Pali coast with Komohana Charters. Family owned and operated, they really make you feel at home the moment you book your tour. They personally answered all the emails of questions I had about the tour, island recommendations and other island tips that no other company would take the time to do! The boat is spotless and just the right size to fit in the caves.
