I was very excited to play this golf course as I had heard positive things but this was one of the worst places that I’ve golfed this year.
The staff seemed friendly, for the most part. The clubhouse staff and starter seemed very nice but the ranger was awful. We explained at the turn that the two groups in front of us were giving lessons to other players and taking an extensive amount of time per hole. He just shrugged his shoulders and said “it’s wet out here, gotta stay on the cart path.” I explained that none of that has anything to do with people giving lessons and taking forever but you could tell that he doesn’t care about his job or the rate of play for the players. He just continued to drink his bud light at the 10th hole.
The golf course was in awful shape with standing water in fairways and sand traps. The course was in such bad shape that we were advised to stay on the path because the carts will get stuck if you leave the cart path. The roughs hadn’t been mowed in a few days so the minute you roll out of the fairway and into the rough, you won’t find you ball.
We paid for an unlimited golf package and because of the 6 hours to play the legend, we missed another tee time. Do not come to golf at Shanty Creek because you’ll overpay and be stuck taking 6 hours to play 18 holes....

I’m a huge believer in that a good golf experience starts with a friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately this was not the case at The Legend. The pro shop staff member Troy was the furthest thing from helpful actually pretty rude to us about merchandise and pricing questions. James the starter was absolutely amazing and very friendly, and than I believe the course Director showed up and asked us about having an extra rider( which we called earlier about), and he informed us we couldn’t use two carts due to them not having enough carts once again we were the 2nd tee time off. They finally allowed us to tee off after a 10 minute discussion. When we finished our round there was about 30 carts at the clubhouse not being used so the cart wasn’t an issue.
I’m not one to write reviews just to complain.I work in the customer service industry and the golden rule treat others how you would like to be treated. May need to be re read at The Legend.
Please note I missed the fairway on #1 which I would like to blame on being annoyed but golf is...
Read moreArnie would not be pleased with the conditions of this course. The fairways and many of the tee boxes are in terrible shape. The fairways are either completely waterlogged or are diseased and rough depending on the hole. While there was some light rain the morning before we played, it had been very dry up until that point so it is clear the grounds crew is not managing the watering effectively. Many of the tee boxes were full of weeds or completely torn up. We also experienced issues with the ranger that others have mentioned - we pulled into the 10th tee at exactly the time noted on our card, and yet the ranger told us we needed to speed up and we should be on the 11th hole. This is just frustrating on top of poor playing conditions. We also talked to the cart crew about our concerns, and they were pretty indifferent. I will give credit to an overall challenging layout and greens that are in very good condition, as well as some great views, thus the two stars earned. But for the money there are many courses in the area that are far...
