10 year warranty = 365 days. I purchased a Maytag washing machine 410 days ago because you know, the Maytag repairman's bored to tears because these things don't break down, last forever and all that. Plus, how can you beat a 10 year warranty?
So I purchased one at Attwood's because I'd rather deal with a locally owned outfit rather than the big box stores whenever I can. Almost hardly on the outside of a year this thing starts throwing codes, locks the door and bricks itself with a full load of clothes and a tub full of water.
I called Attwood's service dept. explained the situation and was told it would be $100 for a service call, ouch. But ok, if that's what it takes let's do it. He says someone will be there Wednesday. Fair enough!
He calls back a half hour later to inform me that they don't service my area (50 miles away) I was dumbfounded, but offered to pay extra if that's what it would take. He told me no, I'd have to bring it in to them. I told him there's no way I could get a fully loaded machine off the pedestal and loaded into my truck, and again offered to pay extra, and that maybe they needed to make an exception to their travel distance policy. He said he'd call me back.
About an hour later he calls and tells me the powers that be say no can do, I then told him this is just rude, you sold me the thing, it's screwed, and I expect you to stand behind the thing and come fix it. He said sorry, like his hands were tied, and that I was the one being rude, I then informed him that he hadn't seen rude yet, but if I have anything to do about it the entire internet will. He replied, really? then hung up on me.
Shortly thereafter I began scouring the net looking for possible solutions which led me to a sensor that I had to open the machine to locate. I found the sensor and was able to get it out, take it apart, clean the connections, blow out the diaphragm and connecting hose and get the machine running again.
In the meantime Attwood's calls back and this time it was a woman apologizing and saying how sorry she was that it had failed so shortly after the warranty expired. (I thought this thing had a 10 year warranty) She then gave me a number to Maytag and told me if I called them and raised holy hell adding that I'll never buy another product of theirs, that what usually happens is they'll call the seller (Attwood's) and demand they go fix it and will also pay them extra for the job, mileage etc. then she said that Attwood's would come out and fix it.
Wait, what? Why should I even have to deal with the manufacturer, they didn't sell it to me. Attwood's should have had my back and taken care of all of this behind the scenes without me, especially since they know this game and must play it often enough. Pass the buck? Make me the middleman? What ever happened to accountability?
So in closing, I'd say before you buy a major brand name appliance at Atwood's you'd better live less than 5 minutes from them, (for their convenience) or see if you can take the diagnostic and service technician course from the manufacturer of your product so you can fix it yourself, because at Atwoodâs, service stops at the sale, and getting "serviced" comes afterwards.
Never again Attwood's,...
Read morePurchased a used gas dryer. I thought the price was a bit much. I paid about $215 installed, ( not worth over $100 plus delivery ). I gave them my old fridge, worth $25.
I was looking for a new range and microwave also. Out of stock on both, price was higher than Home Depot on both of them. I thought I would get a discount on dryer, when I wanted to buy other appliances.
I was referred to them by a friend. I decided not to buy others, when price on dryer was to high, other 2 appliances were higher also. When you buy a home and need all new appliances and you were referred. You don't try and get the highest $$ from a used dryer. I judge a business how much they want me to buy, plus how many I want.. 1st impression is important.
You have to know your competition, I was in retail sales all my life. They should have picked up on my clues I gave them, a referral, Needed 4 appliances, just purchased new home, spent many thousands to refurbish.
3 weeks after purchaes, dryer quite, drove to store, they set up appt to come in 2 days. The motor was bad, replaced with a rebuilt one, as was told. Same when I purchased, was told my dryer was refurbised.
Obviously motor was not. They did resolve the problem no questions ask. That counts for a lot, However, 90 day warranty is defiantly not long enough, if motor had gone out 4 months later, I would have to pay to repair.
In a couple of years, I will buy all new appliances, I will defiantly be on my toes to do better...
Read morePurchased a Brand new Speed Queen washer/dryer set from them. After taking delivery (for $125 fee) I realize that there is no hose kit (never mentioned by Attwood sales) for the Steam function of my Dryer. Calling back to Store, Sales person admitted it was his fault for not mentioning the need for the water hose for the Dryer. After a discussion with the Sales Management team, they decided they would bring out the $29 hose and only charge me $20 for the service call. Total $49 to me. I told them that there should not be any additional service call after admitting it was their overlook. They said take it or leave it. This is how they treat their customers who just spent $2800 in their store. And over $9000 in appliances from them over the last 2 years. (More to come about that.) By the way, I live 1 mile from the store. Terrible company who I purchased my last appliance from.
Update.... Attwood contacted me and made things right with apology and free install of the water hose for the dryer. Maybe I should have just escalated the issue with management before writing a harsh review? Anyway, I am a satisfied customer again. Have to give Attwood a thumbs up for...
