Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Navy Exchange’s active mission-not the above statement, that’s for sure. Customer service is horrible. Let’s begin with the barbershop. Stated hours: 0800-1600. Actual hours worked: 0830-1530, with an hour and a half lunch break in between. Moving on to the communication skills of the employees-it’s so difficult to understand some of the employees that I’ve had to ask them to repeat themselves multiple times just to understand what is being said. Most employees are indifferent to customer problems at best and at worst are actively insulting customers. Couple that with a surprising lack of inventory for a base that features multiple US Navy submarines and their accompanying crews that you begin to understand how a one star review might not just be the result of a frustrated and vindicated customer-but actively earned by the staff.
