Not bad but could be better with some obvious slight improvements. I’ll list those by order of importance.
Dark red kick-plates need to go. If a puck is sent around the boards most of the time you’re going to lose sight of it. A black puck on a dark red kick-plate combined with lackluster lighting makes the visual experience an unnecessary challenge.
If you’re lucky enough to spot the puck along the edge of the boards you now have to deal with uneven ice, moguls, and stalagmites along the edges. It’s extremely dangerous, especially if you’re skating along the edge of the boards at a high speed.
Showers and locker rooms are in serious need of an upgrade. Just playing at other rinks around the area the setup Laurel has is from the Stone Age.
The amount of money this place robs the hockey teams of over the years is completely unnecessary especially given the fact that none of the money goes back to the rink. Lots of teams have bailed to other better-run leagues such as Reistertown or Piney in Odenton because of this. It’s a shame because with better management this place...
Read moreWhat a horrible experience that I had with one of the team members here tonight. Don't ever peacefully admit that you did something wrong here or you will be thrown out. I turned on the heaters inside the Patrick rink, and Steve came up to the entire audience and started yelling at them. I stuck my neck out and said I was the one that turned on the heaters and please do not yell at the audience. About 2 minutes afterwards he came up to me and told me that I was disrespectful towards him, I told him that I did not care all I was here to do was watch my son's game, and he called the police on me and they escorted me out. If I was argumentative with him that would have been one thing, but there are some people in this world who no matter what you do will always think that you are against them. It sucks that after coming here for nearly 8 years, and have another 10 to 12 years to go. That I will have to deal with...
Read moreThe Gardens Ice House has been what has gotten us through these difficult and uncertain times. When the rinks began opening up in the early fall, I began searching for ice so that I could support the local women’s hockey community through a weekly pick up session. Not only was the rink incredibly easy to work with (from Billy planning ice, to Irene following up with our sessions, to Steve supporting our ice time), but they were well prepared for a thorough and direct COVID response. We’ve felt safe and welcome the entirety of our time at TGIH. In addition, the rink has served as a catalyst for women’s hockey, by blending together local club players and created an even more tight knit women’s hockey community during the pandemic by providing us with affordable and convenient ice slots. I for one, have had an amazing experience at Gardens and hope to support them...
