I moved into this complex on October 1, 2021. I found toxic mold in my apartment 2 weeks later. I was forced to hire an expert to come out and test the mold and prepare a report to prove to the complex that the mold existed. (I had to pay the $575 fee for this, although the apartment finally reimbursed me after I demanded they do so.)
I provided the expert report to the complex and asked to be let out of the lease. They refused. Their resolution was to simply move me to another unit within the same complex.
The unit had very visible BLACK mold all throughout the unit before I moved in. (I was not aware of that when I signed the lease - obviously.) The complex attempted to remove the mold, but clearly they failed to do so since the mold is still very present. Although, I admit the mold is not black and visible like it once was, the expert report detected 14 different molds with 2 of those being extremely toxic - requiring professional remediation to remove (versus a simple bleach spray and repaint).
I have made a complaint to the Health Department. I have contacted attorneys. I am very disappointed in how the complex has handled the entire issue.
I am not the cause of the mold. I brought it to their attention and made a simple request but they refused to accommodate that request. You would think that when a tenant is wronged, the landlord would do whatever they could to make it right - but they did not. They did pay the movers to move me from one unit to another (at my demand) but I had to pack my belongings. I have spent over a month of my time dealing with this issue (between hiring the expert, speaking with attorneys, re-packing my stuff, unpacking my stuff, changing addresses -- for the 2nd time in a month- and constant conversations with the management). Their only accommodation was to "graciously" reduce my rent by $35/month. (No, that is not a typo).
I would not recommend this complex to anyone. They have been less than understanding in dealing with THEIR problem. I have felt as though I have been treated as a nuisance. I requested proof that my current unit does not have mold, and of course they cannot provide that proof. I do not feel safe. I do not feel at ease. There is no peace because I do not trust the complex. I do not trust that there is not toxic mold in my current unit. They mislead me once and that trust is gone. Clearly their only concern is money and having bodies in the units to make the money.
The complex seems to believe that only unit #2107 had mold - and nowhere else. The entire complex suffered broken pipes and flooding during the Winter Storm of 2021. They admitted there was flooding in most of the buildings, but did not follow up with mold testing on them. It is my opinion that the complex is more concerned about saving money than the health and wellbeing of their tenants - and that is sad.
I have the mold report and photos if anyone needs them.
Shame on Domain at Morgan's Landing for how they treat their residents. I attempted to handle this issue quietly, but they have left me no choice but to publicly...
Read moreI lived in Morgan landing apartments for two years. I lived in building two apartment 2107 . Three days after I moved into this apartment I received a letter on my door from the previous tenant warning me of black mold in my apartment from the freeze of 2021 when the pipes ruptured in the buildings. At first, I thought nothing of it. I did ask the front desk, and they told me that the mold had been remediated and removed. About seven months later, we had a pipe rupture in the spare bedroom the one my son slept in when maintenance came in to repair it I found behind the wall, the baseboards, the carpet, black mold everywhere in my son’s closet. I fought for months to get this fixed at this point my son and I were staying very sick all the time I have multiple doctors reviews and emergency room visits for upper respiratory infections, asthma, skin, allergies, etc.. the pipe was repaired in the closet. The mold was painted over. They did not even replace the carpet. They simply shampooed it and placed it back down on the floor. I sent corporate pictures of the black mold and proof of the sickness we were experiencing. Unfortunately, whatever my renewal came up, we had experienced a tornado in our area so all other apartment complexes were full so I wasn’t able to find somewhere to move or I would have. Moving forward as we continue to stay sick. I had more mold findings in the apartment next was in the laundry room. I was told from management that it was because I spilled liquid laundry detergent and it was not black mold once again, I have multiple pictures. The tenant that lives in this apartment before me Also had mold testing done, and it was found in the unit ,Of course I did not find this out until after I already lived in the unit . At this point in time I was paying approximately $2200 a month for this apartment because of increases. The complex itself is a very nice complex to live in, the dog park and the amenities are obviously beautiful. Unfortunately, we just received the raw end by getting a tainted unit. Unfortunately, they have moved another couple into this apartment not even a week after I was able to move out. I did have the opportunity to alert them of the situation so they would be aware if they became sick also. . But they already signed their lease also ,so I...
Read moreSometimes when the place seems to good to be true it is. Don't move here if you value any sort of peace in your life. Not all, but most of the residents that live here have no respect for any of the other tenants. When you first move in the front office employees seem great and like they will be there to help with anything but once you've signed the paperwork you are SOL. We have lived here 2 years and more than half of that time the gates have been broken, anyone can get in the community and there have been multiple car break ins. The pool has/had bees living in the middle where the lounge area is. My daughter got stung so I notified the front office. 2 weeks later the bees were still there in the same spot. People leave their trash out in the hallway, not in the provided bins and it leaks all over the concrete of the hallway. Also they leave it out for multiple days (Friday, saturday) not trash days. So it just sits and makes the complex seem dirty. The front office says they will do something about it but it continues so clearly nothing is being done. People use their storage unit right next to our daughters room to build things with their saw, hammer, drill ect. During late hours of the night. It's loud as heck in our unit when they do that. Also you have the people on the second and third floor who don't care how loud they are throughout the night. The people above us have a kid that only sleeps for 4 hours. They run back and forth through the unit. You can hear them at 2am running and then back again at 6am. Also not in school so running around the entire day as well. We rightfully get frustrated and mention it to the front to see if anything can be said to them. They say it's apartment living EVERY SINGLE TIME so some cuss words have been said. Today we got a letter saying they will not allow us to renew our lease because we cussed at them over our frustrations and their lack of doing anything about it. Good luck to whoever moves into this complex. You have been warned ⚠️ they will call you when living here to ask them to leave a good review on Google....
