visited BPM to check out a new (to me) local record shop. I used to live in beverly and morgan park some years ago so I'm kinda familiar with the neighborhood. drove around a bit on my way there; my how the place has changed. found a book store, street food, and other interesting shops in the 1200 block of 103rd. also many charming stores and local businesses in the 1800 block where BPM is located. the shop is bright and spacious, many many well organized bins of tasty new and vintage records labeled and arranged by genre, leaning heavy into r&b/soul/funk and jazz with a respectful number of classic rock and roll items favoring the big acts like the beatles and stones reissues. couldn't find a ronettes album or another copy of yesterday and today but as the owner said those are getting harder to find in the wild. but I was after '70s r&b/soul deep cuts so I was in the right spot. the owner was in the store, answered questions, and was very familiar with his inventory. the selections were ready to browse and in great condition, most in premium crystal clear outer sleeves. the prices for the new sealed items were competitive and quite reasonable for the used and vintage stuff. walked out with a handful of records, as usual a couple I was looking for and a couple that I wasn't looking for, but isn't that the fun. upon playing at home found them all to be in great shape, as described. all in all a successful visit, I expect...
Read moreThis place is AWESOME! They get such a great selection across every genre. I usually have a hard time picking which I should buy as I cannot buy the whole store at once (though I would if I could). Prices are outstanding!!! So many collector vinyls come through there that I can buy for a fraction of what I would pay if I bought them online. The atmosphere is killer, they always have some good jams. Art work everywhere that is unbelievably cool and interesting. The owners are some of the nicest and friendliest people. They always do a great job of updating their Instagram, which I would definitely recommend following to keep up with all their new shipments. If you're ever in a music rut, all you gotta do in go in a search through their inventory and I'm sure just what they are listening to in there will give you some musical inspiration. My vinyl collection has tripled since them opening in August and I show no signs of slowing down. I am incredibly happy and have 0 complaints on their selection, atmosphere, and all around customer service. Even if you don't listen to vinyls, it is just a very calming space to be in. and maybe buy some art or a great tote bag instead. They are such a great addition to the Beverly neighborhood and I really hope everyone who walks in there feels the warmth and sense of belonging I feel every time I...
Read moreI’ve visited this shop a few times before and have always loved the warm, welcoming environment the owners create. It’s a small, independently owned record store run by a husband and wife, and every time I stop by, I leave feeling like more than just a customer, but my experience this week truly made me feel even more connected and supported as a customer. Earlier this week, I dropped in because I was curious about Record Store Day—I had never participated before and had lots of questions. They were so kind and patient in explaining everything to me, which made me feel excited and comfortable about the whole experience. I mentioned I’d likely be working on that day and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to stop by and mentioned the vinyl I was hoping for. To my surprise, the owner sweetly offered me one of the band’s posters from their window. It was such a thoughtful and generous gesture, especially knowing those posters are limited. It truly made my entire week. Luckily, I was able to stop by on Record Store Day and even got the exact record I was hoping for! But even if I hadn’t, I still would’ve walked away feeling grateful for how supported and appreciated I felt that day. Thank you for making my first Record Store Day such a memorable and heartwarming experience. I’ll definitely keep...
