Island Gypsy — Local services in Lavallette

Honestly? I bring my 3 girls in here very often. We have a house down here for the winter and are here a good bit of the summer. We frequent, and support, as many local businesses as we can. We know and say hello to all the people in any store we go to and treat all people the same. At Wawa or at Saks. We came in there today and it’s gross and rainy and dreary outside and we all opted for comfort and warm cozy clothes. We all dressed in sweats and sweatshirts. We were looking for a dress for my daughter for a special occasion and as we always do, pick up any odds and ends along the way. One girl followed us around the store like we were thieves. She stared at us, she tailed us and made us beyond uncomfortable. Everything we touched she checked and made a huge production of rearranging. We are very polite and had not made any mess even tho the racks are stuffed and impossible to see an item. The dirty looks, following and staring were ridiculous and finally my oldest daughter was so uncomfortable she couldn’t even pick nothing out and asked me to take them out of there. When I rang up the girl who checked me out didn’t greet me didn’t say anything just “$132” threw my purchases in a bag and shoved it at me. No thank you no nothing. The woman dressed more nicely next to me had her packages wrapped in tissue (as mine always have been previously) and was chatted with politely. Honestly? I can buy junky ocean drive, Levi’s and Z supply and off brand jeans anywhere else it’s really not so great simply because you shovel it by the ton on to tables and racks in a pretty store. We are paying for your pretty store and I won’t do it anymore if you’re going to treat repeat and good customers like pretty woman because we weren’t dressed as nicely as we usually are. I will NOT be going back and I will share this story with others. Do better. With 3 daughters and shop as much as I do? Big mistake-HUGE. I have to go shopping...

I would give zero stars if I could. My friend & I came in yesterday, we were looked up & down by employees and followed around the store being WATCHED, this girl was right behind us the entire time & any hanger my friend or I touched they would immediately run to once we started walking away. I looked around the store to see if anyone else shopping had someone following them around and noticed the other people in the store dressed more “fancy” had no one circling around them. We had jean shorts & sweaters on after leaving the beach & we just so happened to be the ones followed around the entire property. Not sure why what clothing we have on over bathing suits has anything to do with the money in our bank accounts. They did an amazing job at showing how horrible their staff was & making people uncomfortable. We shared the experience with friends who have also shopped here & sure enough they have also had the same experience. It’s truly sad to see that people are harshly profiled just because they aren’t dressed head to toe in...

Been coming here for years because the clothes are cute and somewhat decently priced and have still yet to have a pleasant experience with the workers. It’s shocking how rude and unfriendly the girls are. They never greet you, but instead stare when you walk in and continue with their gossip. Reviewers across all platforms all seem to have the same exact experience. I don’t know who taught these workers customer service skills, but if I was my business they’d all be fired 🤷🏻‍♀️.
