I have gone to Tina's twice and both times were terrible experiences. They have a blatant disregard for peoples time and are not professional. The most recent time I went was the worst display of professionalism I have ever endured with a business. When I first arrived one lady asked me what I wanted I told and showed her with pictures. I wanted simple box braids, medium sized, three different colors with curled ends which is the exact style I got last time. She told me it was going to be $180. Two other ladies then started preparing my hair. I had asked them to put more blonde in the mix multiple times and they would put little amounts. One lady then started to blow dry my hair but instead of blow drying it properly she proceeded to yank my hair and my head. The other lady then screamed to me "you need to do a better job or washing and blow drying your hair it is an inconvenience to us". I am very tender headed and told her to stop multiple times and she just told me that my hair was very knotted and continued. It had hurt so bad that I had to stop and go to the bathroom to wipe my tears. She also told my boyfriend who told them he helped me that he did a terrible job. When the same lady that blow dried my hair started braiding I started to nod off because I was tired. She then stopped braiding my hair and screamed to me "You need to get up and walk around or something I will not work like this". Halfway through the ladies braiding my hair the first lady who asked me what I wanted then had a discussion with the two employees that were braiding my hair. Somewhere along the communication they messed up something with the length of my hair the lady then told me the price was going to be $200. Which was fine there just was not going to be a tip. I intended to pay the same exact amount I paid last time because I got the same hair style. When they finished braiding my hair a different lady then was going to curl my ends or so I thought. I was watching a movie on my phone while she was fixing my hair to be curled and instead of asking me to simply put my phone down she screamed "this is not the time to be on your phone". She then dipped my hair which was not what I asked. Don't get me wrong the hair was beautifully done however there was not enough blonde as I asked for multiple times, the ends were not curled like I asked, and the price was changed halfway through the service for an error made by miscommunication between employees. Also the tone and attitude that was used towards me was not appreciated at all. $200 and 8 hours of my time was not worth it. If this is how they treat their customers I honestly do not know why they return. If I was not so desperate to get my hair done this would be the very last place I would go. I felt as though I needed to share my experience because I know I am not the only one who has endured the terrible service...
Read moreI'm really let down after being a loyal customer at Tina's African Hair Braiding for more than ten years. Despite some highs and lows in the service, I stuck with them. But today, I've had enough. While the staff, including Tina herself, have always been nice, I'm fed up with the inconsistent pricing, last-minute changes, inexperienced stylists, and sometimes not-so-great work.
I asked Tina about getting crochet with a special illusion braid down via Instagram DM, and she said it would cost $80. When I got there for my appointment, I was shocked to find out the braider didn't even know how to do crochet! They ended up doing straight back braids for my base, therefore not giving me the look I wanted…it was something completely different, even though I showed them a picture. When I complained, they said it would still look good, and we could try the illusion braids down next time.
I went ahead paid $80 plus a $10 tip through Zelle to Tina, who wasn't even there. But when they called Tina to confirm receipt of payment, she said the crochet actually costs $100. When I showed them Tina's message confirming $80, they said no that was for the illusion braid down only. But I didn’t even get the illusion and now you’re telling me the price I quoted wasn’t for crochet I asked for though it clear say it in the message. They've pulled this kind of thing multiple time before, like when they charged me $20 extra because they said my hair was short in the back after being quoted $180 initially. It's frustrating to feel like they're taking advantage of me after all these years. I like Tina, but I can't ignore their business practices. My advice to others: always double-check the prices before you agree to anything.
*got home and was embarrassed when family told me there was spaces in the back of my head! Horrible job!!...
Read more$360 for Boho knotless braids. I WOULD recommend knotless braids but NOT Boho knotless.
I really didn’t want to write this review, but this is ridiculous. I’m a big-time small business supporter, but on the other hand, I know the customer service will not change because they will always get new clients.
Anyways.
It’s been about 2weeks and the loose hair has not stop shedding. When I initially got the hair done, I loved it. It was a 10/10. When the hair was shedding I thought it was normal because I just got it done. I tried to finger comb through the braids to get any excess shedding, but it never stopped. All throughout my vacation, I would find chunks/strands of hair in the hotel room or around the resort. It was quite embarrassing. It was even in my friend’s things. Now it’s all in my carpet. I contacted Tina to let her know. She explained that nothing like this has ever happened and told me to come by so they can fix it. I reluctantly went back, curious to see how they were going to “fix it.” This was a week after getting it done. After examining the hair she and the braiders acted annoyed asking me what did I want them to about it. Which is crazy because she said she was going to fix it. Of course I wanted it to be the way I initially wanted because I paid so much money. I do not want to take out the hair. They proceeded to crochet loose hair into the braids. They knotted it to secure it. Eventually those came out too! Very disappointing because I paid $360 and I tipped 20% I hated the way they treated me when I came back the second time. I am now writing this review out of pure frustration because now I have no choice but to take them out. I’m tired of finding hair on the ground...
