Don Jose Mexican Grill & taqueria — Restaurant in Lawrenceville

Whoaaaaa! Definitely blown away by Don Jose's. Great food, super service, and plenty of parking.

The family and I ventured out just after 6:30pm from downtown Lawrenceville and arrived around 6:45pm to Don Jose's. It was pretty much a straight shot down Lawrenceville Hwy. But be careful, it can be easily missed if you don't have the GPS on (or know the area).

Tuesday night just happened to be $1 mini taco night. Your choice of chicken or steak (might be a third option...can't recall). We had a chicken and steak and they were soft shell and delicious. Also keep in mind that Kids (12 and under) eat free on Wednesday with the purchase of an adult entree. We'll have to come back for that one Wednesday!

Our time of arrival was perfect because after our orders were taken around 7:15pm...a flood of patrons came in. At our time of arrival, we were able to sit anywhere we desired. The middle of the restaurant has tables with booths on the side. Children highchairs readily available as well.

I ordered the two burrito (chicken) dinner entree combo. It was very good. I also had two of the chicken mini tacos. The food came out the perfect temperature and the quantity was perfect. I can definitely say I was fulfilled.

While there was also one server for the whole evening, I barely noticed. She was fantastic. She checked in on our party plenty and provided refills and other service as needed.

First of let me start by saying that every negative comment I see on here is such bluff. This place is so underrated. When you first see this place from the outside you ask yourself dang do I really want to go in there? It’s not the fanciest looking thing, but the food and service definitely makes up for it. I have gone a couple of times with my husband and friends, they never disappoint. The staff is always friendly and the food is cheap annddd the service is amazing. It is a very humbling experience. You sit there surrounded by the most humbling people on earth. It literally reminds me of Mexico and how great the people are. I have even seen the owner a couple of times and he always greets us with love. If i had to recommend some food I would say go for the tacos!!!! Best tacos ever. Get the pastor tacos! I’ve ordered from this restaurant twice using DoorDash. And both times they have given me the incorrect food. I ordered fajitas that’s supposed to come with rice, beans, tortillas, peppers + more. I get my food and it only has rice and shrimp. I paid close to $40 for them to give me the wrong food twice. The second time they gave me shrimp, lettuce, 1 slice of tomato, rice and beans. No flour tortillas or peppers. I’ve requested a refund both times and this restaurant is officially on my do not patronize list. Horrible way they treat customers.
