Such a frustrating mix of good and bad.
Pros: Absolutely beautiful, well maintained, great design.
Cons: Practically zero flow management. Your round WILL take 30+ minutes longer than it should (per 9 holes), every time. No marshal on Sunday (or maybe ever?). Course and range closed for random events constantly. I'd suggest calling them to confirm the range is open every time before heading over. I bought a range punch pass that I cannot seem to get through because of closures. Awful tee time booking rules, especially if you are a single player. Booking website hasn't worked right for single golfers for months.
I also recently found out they have standing tee times booked out permanently, which shouldn't be happening on a municipal course. If I can't book until 3 days prior, then not sure why someone who's the buddy of the course manager should have a standing tee time every Saturday morning. I can be on the website spamming the refresh button leading into the 9PM release time and no matter what, all the decent weekend times are gone the moment they are opened for booking. They never even appear.
Good luck getting on the course. Once you do, expect a...
Read moreAs a resident of Salt Lake County, I'm a bit jealous because Davis County does municipal golf right, and Valley View is the perfect example. I've played only the front, never the back but what I've seen is beautiful. I've never played a course with so many elevation changes and uneven lies. The greens are tricky to read and can be surprisingly quick. It's wonderfully challenging, especially for a municipal course. There is always some aspect of the course that messes with a good round and makes me want to go back to redeem myself. The views are stunning. You will almost always see deer roaming the course.
Because of the elevation changes, if you have issues walking you will definitely want a riding cart. The rates are the best I've seen anywhere, no exception. Senior rates start at age 55 instead of 60 and the time of this writing are $13 for a walking weekday 9 holes. It's among my favorite...
Read moreIf you want a bonafide 5 star experience on a municipal GC in Davis County then Valley View is your best option. Pro Shop staff are organized, knowledgeable, and polite. They are even friendly about enforcing the dress code. Unlike other public GC’s in the immediate area they take pace of play seriously. It is not unusual to see the Marshall multiple times in a round. The fairways are nice and green. Most holes are forgiving and allow play for errant shots. There is a nice mix of easy and hard. Good elevation changes. Greens are well maintained. The views and wildlife are fantastic. On course signage is clear and fairway yardage markers are well maintained and easy to find. Golf carts are clean and in great repair. Practice areas are enjoyable. The atmosphere on the course is excellent largely due to the expectations set by the...
