My kids are 16 & 17 they lost their dad just last year. My daughter wanted to put a balloon on her dads grave for his birthday. I understand the "rules". However while we were sitting crying at his grave mourning our loss of their father a man confronted us with a flyer of the rules and insisted she take her balloon home. It was incredibly rude. I am shocked and she is devastated. It's bad enough my kids lost their dad. Let them cry and have their moment. We could have driven away and she would have never known had he just waited a minute to take it away. Instead I rode the over an hour car ride home with a crying daughter holding her balloon. I totally understand the rules, but no longer will I place any type of arrangement on my husbands grave except in the fall where they are not removed as fast. But totally understand why they have to be removed in the spring and summer because it creates mowing problems. Both cemeteries are beautiful and peaceful. The one in France though has flowering shrubs as hedge rows, so there are flowers almost all spring and summer. I would suggest anyone visiting a loved one's grave on the Fort, take a blanket, a sandwich, etc. (leaving no trash behind) and sit enjoy a snack...
