Extra Space Storage lures you in with a special rate and then increase your rents every 6 months. It's nuts. Don't rent from this group unless you have a short-term rental. If you are a business like me, looking for a space that you can rent for years, it's nonsense. They also will not extend a contract to allow you to keep a rate for a couple of years or so. It's bad business on their part. They could have their units rented, but choose to lose a great paying customer over trying to fleece someone. My rates increased $16-20 each time.
UPDATE: I had already chatted with the management office, but was told I'd still have a rate increase. I posted my review. Reply by owner below. I reached out but couldn't speak with the owner, of course. District Management team still says there is nothing they can do on rates. I believe it it truly a poor business decision. That's just my two cents. New renters will just need to judge if they are short term or no. Otherwise, you waste your time moving in, setting up a storage system and then having to move again. There is a privately owned company nearby whose rates are posted online and haven't increased in the time I've been with Extra Space. Gate access kept saying access suspended so I went back to the intercom and did not get an answer. So I tried my fat code again with no luck, after a few minutes a car came out so I went in. The gate has a cylinder lock that was supposed to be provided but was left with the typical storage lock that cannot be used at a 20.00 charge. So again I go to the intercom and was met with no answer. So I called the storage twice with no answer. Tried the intercom once more with no answer. Trying to get a hold of Customer Support is impossible and I even tried the office 1 more time after I got home and still got no answer. Read moreI rented a unit here a few years ago and the people were always Pleasant and helpful. However the day I went in to close the unit because I no longer needed it they were unbelievably rude. I was really shocked. My brother needed a unit a few months ago and took a unit here. I thought well maybe things have changed. I've gone in twice to help him and both times in the office they were rude. I understand having a bad day I don't understand why you're in customer service if you can't be nice to the people who rent. The units themselves are clean, however the locks that come with them are extremely cheap and easily broken in to. The last three times I was there the gate was wide open and never shut even if I was in my unit for hours.
