Easy hike to "the basin" waterfall. One trail to the basin is paved for easier mobility. Multiple trail options for other hikes and additional waterfalls. The park is carry-in and carry-out so no garbage cans, but there are pit toilets near the parking area.

There is a parking area on the northbound side of I-93 with a tunnel under the highway. The parking area on the southbound side which is a bit closer to the falls is slightly larger. Parking is busy on weekends so plan accordingly. Biking from your hotel, or from some of the farther away parking lots is recommended as there are paved trails between many of them -- check with the Franconia Notch start park visitor center...

We were feeling a little tired after going to Flume Gorge, so the basin was a nice little visit.

We stopped for lunch in the picnic area before going to the basin.

The basin is an amazing site to visit. Carved by glaciers and torrents of water over hundreds of thousands of years, this natural landmark has amazed visitors for years. I haven't been here in years, and I was just as mesmerized as I was when I was a child.

There are a trails connected through here. But they cross streams and my wife didn't have the right footwear, so we did not end up hiking the cascade-basin trail. There were streams to that one could take a dip in. The water looked welcoming! But alas, it was not...

Accessible rocky cascades with clear crisp water, a must see of Franconia Notch. Best accessed from parking lot going south on I-93.

The area has several clear crisp small waterfalls and cascades traveling down smooth rocks, and in parts looks like a natural water park. The basin itself is a small waterfall with deep blue water but with the rest of the area is worth the visit. It is very easy to access which is good but also makes it crowded. It is a good year round trail including the winter when it is less busy other than the snowmobiles going down the pemi trail. There will still be flow in the winter. The trail is packed so you don't need snow shoes. It is overall...

I visit the Basin just about every time I drive through Franconia Notch. It’s a wonderful place to show the entire family. It has an easy stroll down to the waterfall itself and you can feel very at peace with nature and the surrounding mountains here. The river water is amazingly clear, and the granite rocks are stunningly beautiful. Definitely not a spot to miss out on. Hope you enjoy :) Make sure to explore the whole area if you have time. There is a nice river feature called the Baby Flume nearby as well as a few other waterfalls up the Pemi River like Kinsman Falls.
