This is a great store to walk and look around. . I mean they have what seems like everything. . The kid in me just stares at the model airplanes, trains, rockets and such. . I am the owner of a traxx 1/10 scale rc, I bought it cause a friend of mine owns one and he has a race track in his back yard. . Anyways going there and asking questions from a completely newb stand point seems pointless. . Was 3 guys behind the counter talking and I asked 1 of them about the traxx and if they new about brushless motors , again I don't know, just what I know from my friend. . Anyways I ask him and he seemed to just kinda talk down to me ( You dont KNOW what kind of motor your friend has!?!?) ( You dont KNOW you need a special this when yiu are gonna put lipo batteries in!?!). . Anyways a customer who was also standing by talking to these guys stepped aside and picked up where this guy's should have, this customer answered all my questions and was so helpful. . But I left the store instead of purchasing my traxx truck there I bought it off Amazon. . I think it's important that the owner know, that people are gonna come in who have true enthusiasm about this great fun hobby and to deal with people who seem like they not only do not share your enthusiasm but disdain at you for asking such newb questions, is not the nest way to have repeat customers. Not that Hub Hobby is going anywhere I know, but still guys. . Leaving the store I almost was just like I didint even want to buy the RC truck at all but thanks for the guy who was standing around who was not a employee but shared my excitement for what I was getting into. . I think alot more could be done to make people feel included and like hey were all in this together type of attitude let me help you learn. I've been buying model airplanes from hub when I was 10 years old with my dad, I'm 37 now with 2 sons of my own almost 3 and 1 years old, and I want to explore and learn these hobbies with my kids but I may start to think about where I make my purchases from...
Read moreAs a child I spent many years in the hospital due to a genetic bone disease. I frequented the hub hobby in Richfield. Ok... I’m lying I was there every day. Although, my family was too poor from medical bills to buy anything. I would wheel around in my wheel chair day in and day out. A few time I had done month long stints in the hospital, and it was obvious I wasn’t in the store. That something was wrong. My dad couldn’t stand the hospital, so my mom would stay with me. My dad would deal with his anxiety over my failing health by picking up a cheap plastic battleship model and he’d assemble it and let me paint them. One day he had gone into the the Richfield location and the staff realized quickly I had been gone for a while and asked how I was doing. That day the staff loaded a huge card board box. With all the best puzzles, toys, free flight rubber band powered aircraft and my personal favorite, kyosho mini RC car. I received this huge care package, moments after a diagnosis of just a few years to live, due to the tumors in my spine. They were cutting into my spinal cord and my spinal fluid was leaking out fast. Multiple blood clots caused two strokes, My brain was unable to float and I was going blind and unable to walk or talk. 19 Years later, I have survived the ordeal, I’ve grown strong enough to travel the world for 10 years. Out of my wheel chair now for 11 years I returned to Mn. This time it’s my father in the hospital with just a few months to live or less. I’m stronger than ever I decided it was time to get out and get working. I took a weekend shift with the best crew I’ve ever met. I’m a proud employee, a job I dreamed of as a child. I’m thankful for team and my boss and I wake up excited to go into work. I couldn’t recommend a better...
Read moreI've only been to Hub Hobby Center once while looking for parts for my R/C Helicopters and airplanes. They had all the parts I needed in stock. Prices are pretty much full retail and it is not a discount center, but that is to be expected. If I want cheap and know exactly what I want I find it on the Internet. But if I need something quickly or if I'm needing to have hands-on to decide then a local hobby shop is the place to go and I do like to support them. Hub is like a 3 pound sausage in a 1 pound casing. Cluttered, full to the ceiling and narrow isles, so they certainly could benefit from a larger store, but that is just because they stock so very much and in a fairly small building. The service seems like it varies from section to section. In the railroad area where I was looking at plastic pieces the attendant was chatting with a couple and when I walked by he broke from them and said, "Can I help you find something?" In the R/C area the guy behind the counter just sat there staring into space and didn't even acknowledge even when I was standing right at the counter in front of him. I finally asked a question and he just pointed to an area. So my take is that the management has not standards of conduct for their employees. I'd definitely go back as they seem to stock many of the parts that I use and they do seem to have more of them than any other Twin Cities hobby store that I've been in. (4 others) Hobby Warehouse in Minneapolis seemed to have about the same stuff but my experience with attendants there...
