This is for Buckeye Trail in Hocking Hills where we stayed for two nights (Jun-21 to Jun-22). Let's start with one star: had to give 1 because there isn't an option to give a big bold zero. We paid a little over $750/night, and got $300 a night value (see pics and videos). Grill full of rust and falling apart and a health hazard if used. See the rusty metal that came off from the grates. Pans that were not usable and again a health hazard. Door of a bathroom and a bedroom not locking. Vents so dirty you can see they were not cleaned in years. Both tables on deck with broken tiles. Wifi router so bad you lose signals when you get out of the door and sit on the deck. I understand you can't get more bandwidth because you rely on service in the area but you can certainly have a good router. Worst of all, the bedding. Mattresses and box springs so bad (noisy, sinking) that none of the adults were able to sleep on these beds. I have had stayed in some cheap motels but these beds by far were the worst I ever had, and that too after paying $750/night. Coming to the service, we told the company rep all what we saw and send pictures and videos. They said they are sending a new grill and new pans, and the guy will fix the doors also. They sent pans, fixed the doors, but couldn't send the grill and we only got a partial replacement of rusty grate. They said they can't do much with bedding as owner needs to approve and we can't replace them. Best they could offer was a partial refund if we leave and 'find another place'. It was that easy for them to say that because they didn't give a damn to guests or their experience. They guy we were communicating said they never have received any complaints for the bedding or the falling apart grill, or pans, or anything. Look at the pics and you'll find that hard to believe. I exchanged around 10 emails back and forth for all these issues, and never for once he said he is sorry for what we are going through and that they should have had some/all of these issues resolved before our arrival. When I asked that the grill and pan were serious health hazards, response was 'but you didn't use them'. When asked why these issues were not identified and resolved before arrival, there was no response. When asked if this is what guests should expect after paying over $1500 for two nights, no response. No sorry no apology nothing, but 'this is what it is, stay or leave' was the response. They'll tell you anything to get you in, and then ask you to leave when you'll talk to them after finding out the reality. Learn from the disaster we had and stay away from...
Read moreThe company overall is a complete knock out of the park. This is our second time staying with Buffalo Lodging and I feel as though the communication was on point. I have a few reasons that I did not rank higher.
Cons: The house we stayed in (Dragonfly) needed some attention. The biggest sell for us on the house was the fact that it had a swing-set, however a few of the steps on the ladder were broken and dangerous. The weather stripping around the front door was in need of replacing as you could it’s been torn off or picked at. The door leading to the deck, the deadbolt did not lock at all. The fireplace was not the normal fireplace we have encountered when staying in a cabin. We tried to turn it on and the propane tank was pretty empty. I knew that if we wanted to use the grill we would need to request one but I didn’t know that we needed one for a fire inside so that was a let down. No fault of Buffalo Lodge, but since this is a dog friendly cabin, our pups came with us and we were able to enjoy 3 days of great walks, however an owner of one of the nearby houses had two jack russles that they did not keep on a leash that kept coming too close to the Dragonfly property as we were outside with our dogs (who were on leashes) and made our multiple walks a day, come to an end, but again... no fault of Buffalo Lodging. Finally, one of the basement bedrooms had a very large dent in the wall where the drywall was cracked and in need of repair. The only reason I point these things out is because of the money that is spent nightly, these things could easily be fixed.
Pros: This cabin fit my family of 8 and our 3 dogs very comfortably. It was so nice that my family could all sit in one room and watch a movie. We had so much room that no one felt crowded. We enjoyed many meals at the stunning dinner table. Everything was extremely clean and the decore was beautiful. Having the basement with two rooms and a common room to watch tv was amazing considering we have two little ones who wake up very early and we were able to keep them occupied without waking the rest of the family. Being able to do laundry was a huge plus. The yard was such a nice size that we threw the frisbee around, played some softball, and even played a little kickball. The fire pit was perfect. Most of all this property was great since it was so close to all of the caves and hiking trails.
Overall we look forward to planning another trip to Hocking Hills using...
Read moreWe have stayed 3 different times with this company and up until this last time it had been great. We stayed with a large group at Falls lodge in March. Unfortunately, when we got to the lodge Friday night it felt very cold inside. We assumed it was because we had all just arrived and had the doors open for a while bringing items in. When we woke up in the morning I discovered what I thought had been the problem. The thermostat was out of batteries. I called the company and they were sending someone over to take a look. We went out hiking for the day and told them we wouldn’t be there. We later got a call saying everything should be good and that thermostat had needed new batteries and that’s why it had been so cold. (In the high 50’s in the one bedroom) We did not get back until later that day. It had been sunny, we were all hanging out in the large great room and cooking. The house wasn’t necessarily warm but seemed better than it had been. The thermostat was on and working now so I just assumed it would warm up over time. The next morning we woke up again to freezing bedrooms on the first floor. I had woke up a couple times in the middle of the night thinking it was cold in there but not realizing exactly why. That day I did some investigating and suspected the actual furnace was broken. Called the company and they did repair it. The original repair man was unable to repair it so they had a hvac tech come out and fix it enough to get us through the night. He said it was a larger problem but could patch it for a short time. I understand things break and things happen. What I was frustrated about is that the original person that came out to fix the thermostat didn’t check to make sure the heat was actually working after replacing the batteries. I called the company and they said they did what was asked when I called originally (replace the batteries). I mean I obviously I want the batteries replaced so that we have heat when it was in the 30’s and 40’s. We stayed for 3 nights. Only one of those nights we had heat on the first floor. We will go to hocking hills again but will plan to stay with a different company. I think this could be a good option for people that don’t plan to leave the lodge and just stay around. I just assumed they would double check that the heat actually turned on. If you have to call the repair assistance number just double check everything while...
