If you're considering doing business with Don Wood Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Rockbridge, Ohio — DON’T DO IT.
I read the other one-star reviews and thought, “That won’t happen to me.” I was wrong.
My experience purchasing a vehicle (from out of state) here was by far the most frustrating, dishonest, and unprofessional transaction I’ve ever endured. From bait-and-switch pricing, to prolonged ghosting, to outright lies about the loan and title status, this dealership demonstrated gross incompetence and a complete lack of integrity. Yes, this experience happened about a year ago, and I'm just now deciding to write this review.
Here’s just a brief summary of what I dealt with:
On 1/22/2024, I received purchase agreements for $50,000 (the price advertised on AutoTrader.com) if I financed through my own bank, or $49,500 if I financed through the dealership. That same day, I chose to finance through USAA, completed the dealer funding request online, and sent everything over. USAA confirmed it was received, and the dealership acknowledged they had it.
Then nothing.
Between 1/23 and 1/30, I made multiple phone calls and sent messages — all ignored. Not one response.
On 1/31/2024, after nearly a week of silence, the general manager contacted me after this sale was brought to his attention, and arbitrarily increased the price by $3,000. He claimed he had no idea where the $50,000 price came from — despite it being clearly documented in the purchase agreement his own salesman had sent me.
Against my better judgment, I moved forward anyway. I had fallen in love with the truck and couldn’t be talked out of it.
Despite confirming my financing choice and submitting everything required, I was met with repeated ghosting and conflicting updates for weeks.
I was told the paperwork had been overnighted via UPS — only to later find, through tracking, that it wasn’t even shipped until nine days later.
The vehicle showed up unannounced at my home. No heads-up. No courtesy call.
Then came time for my first payment — but when I logged into USAA, there was no loan listed. I contacted them, and they told me they had never received the funding request from the dealership. In other words, the deal was never funded, and no official loan or payment account existed.
Meanwhile, the dealership insisted the deal had been funded, submitted title paperwork and blamed me for the delay. I had to be the one to inform them that they never received the funding from my bank — something they should have known immediately.
I received false statements from the general manager, including a claim that USAA told him they had been "repeatedly asking me for information I never provided" — which USAA categorically denied. They confirmed that all required steps were completed on my end back in January. They also stated they would never speak with the dealership without me being present on the call — something that never occurred.
After months of delays and misinformation, I finally abandoned the loan with USAA altogether and wired the remaining balance myself just to end the nightmare.
The title was finally issued on 4/16/2024 — nearly three months after the deal began. That’s when I learned that the dealership had listed USAA as a lienholder on the title despite never receiving any funds from them. Complete incompetence.
To this day, I still have no bill of sale for the vehicle I purchased.
The lack of communication, outright deception, and failure to properly complete even basic paperwork makes this dealership a complete liability to any buyer. I wasted countless hours, endured serious stress, and was met with evasion and dishonesty nearly every step of the way.
If you value transparency, timeliness, and basic professionalism — avoid Don Wood Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram at all costs. There are plenty of reputable dealerships out there — this is not...
Read moreI purchased a 2020 Dodge Journey in October 2024 from Don Wood Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM in Rockbridge, Ohio, for nearly $17,000. While I knew the price was high—considering the car’s average value is $12,000—I was reassured by the dealership that the car was in excellent condition and came with a certified warranty. Unfortunately, my experience turned into an absolute nightmare.
On the very day I drove the car home to Dayton, the check engine light came on, and I discovered the heat didn’t work. I immediately contacted Don Wood, who instructed me to take the car to any Chrysler dealership since the warranty was supposed to cover any issues. Following their advice, I had the car towed to Performance Chrysler in Centerville.
At Performance Chrysler, the service representative sent me a text asking me to reply “Yes” to authorize a diagnostic test. Believing this was part of the warranty process, I responded as instructed. A week later, I received a detailed list of issues—most of which weren’t covered by the warranty. Shocked and frustrated, I called them right away to instruct them NOT to perform any repairs, as I planned to return the car to Don Wood.
Despite my clear instructions, Performance Chrysler went ahead and completed repairs on the car and is now demanding nearly $500. They claim my “Yes” response was authorization to fix the car, not just to diagnose it. This is outright deceptive. When I told them I had explicitly called to cancel the repairs, they claimed there was no record of my call.
Meanwhile, I’ve been trying to resolve this issue with Don Wood for over three months. Every time I call, I’m told someone will get back to me, yet no one ever does. Yesterday, I called again and was informed that the sales representative who sold me the car has been moved to a different location. I spoke with the sales manager, who assured me that he would check into what is going on. However, I’m confused about what exactly there is to check. I paid for the car, and on the first day, these issues were immediately apparent! Is this really so difficult to investigate?
I’ve been more than patient, but I won’t wait much longer. If I don’t receive a response soon, I will file a formal complaint with the Attorney General and take legal action with my attorney.
To start having mechanical issues and visiting repair shops the very first week after buying a car from a dealership is unacceptable—especially at this price point. Don Wood sold me a car with significant problems, lied about the warranty, and abandoned me as a customer the moment I drove off the lot. Performance Chrysler compounded the nightmare by manipulating me into unauthorized repairs.
This entire experience has been a disaster. Don Wood Chrysler and Performance Chrysler have shown they care more about profits than integrity or customer satisfaction. Their practices are unprofessional, unethical, and downright dishonest.
I strongly urge anyone considering either dealership to steer clear. Save yourself the headache and find a business that values its customers and operates...
Read moreHave purchased several vehicles here but the last on was a little more than undesirable. The vehicle was fine as I was just purchasing my lease out with 1 remaining payment. Payoff, including last payment was provided. After I signed, I believed all to be well. Well roughly a month after purchase I received a bill from my lease company. I called thinking maybe the bill was sent before payoff was sent. I was wrong. My truck was never paid off. So I continued calling both the dealership and the previous lender. I had already made my first payment on the buyout and am still having to pay the old loan for fear of it hitting my credit. Nothing huge there other than the inconvenience of paying 2 payments in 1 month for the same truck. Then fast forward to the end of my 45 day tag. Still no memo title and working under the assumption, as every other deal there, that id be supplied vehicle plates and dont have them either. I was getting ready to go on vacation so after driving on expired tags for a week or so, they provided a second 45 day tag. Fast forward to present and my second 45 day tag is expired and I only have received my memo title a few days ago. Around the 100 days after sale mark. Still no plates though. Mind you, I've been in contact with the people in the office throughout this experience. They assure me they're working on it. I message again today as im still under the assumption they'll be coming as I was told last week everything was being sent by 2 day mail, which was also inaccurate, and now im being told I need to just take my memo title to the BMV to get my own plates. Knowing some of the behind the scenes stuff here helps me as I know there is a fee collected at time of purchase to facilitate the tag for the customer. Very disappointed with the experience. I tried to refrain from any of this during the over 100 day venture I've been on but the message today was the last straw....
