Peak ownership/mgmt bizarrely and indefensibly single out senior *tennis members to discriminate against. Peak participates in several programs that provide certain benefits to members of Medicare Supplement/Medicare Advantage Plans (e.g., Silver Sneakers, Renew Active). Among benefits of these plans are fitness benefits that cover the cost of a health club membership. (Note that this means that if you have such a Medicare plan, YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR A PEAK BASIC FITNESS MEMBERSHIP THROUGH YOUR MEDICARE PREMIUMS!) Peak honors this agreement for members with "basic" fitness memberships, but denies it to *tennis members, whose memberships include a basic membership plus tennis privileges, for which there is a monthly surcharge. It is crystal clear in the terms of these fitness benefits that they anticipate exactly this situation, with the expectation that the amount of the basic membership would be credited towards the total membership cost, leaving the member to pay the difference (e.g., the $26 monthly surcharge for *tennis access).
Peak formerly credited *tennis members who have such Medicare plans the amount of the "basic" membership dues toward their tennis memberships, but, without explanation, ceased doing so ~4-6 years ago. At current membership dues ($69/month for basic membership, $95/month for *tennis membership), Peak thereby OVERCHARGES the senior *tennis members to whom they deny this benefit $828/YEAR!!! Worse, because these members have already paid for the benefit through Medicare premiums, WE ARE BEING DOUBLE-CHARGED the amount of the "basic" membership EVERY MONTH, first in our Medicare premiums, then by Peak's discriminatory denial of this benefit that we have already paid for with those premiums. Peak's management cannot or will not provide any remotely valid, reasonable explanation for this choice to discriminate against senior *tennis members in this way.
*UPDATE: With the advent of pickleball memberships, Peak management has announced that it will discriminate against senior pickleball members as well, likewise denying them the Renew Active/Silver Sneakers/etc. benefits that THEY HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR IN THEIR...
Read more2 year member here. Honestly the weirdest gym I've ever been to. The peak is basically a gym centered around old people who have no idea what there doing. This makes for amazing people watching, but occasionally leads to conflict. I'd had multiple older individuals ask if I was using a machine because I was resting between sets. Not supersetting or using multiple machines, just resting for like a minute before the next set. They tend to give you that lead stare when you tell them your in fact using it and then sit there and stare at you tell your done. At the end of the day, this is a gym for older individuals who actually have no idea what there doing. The management of the Peak is very aware of this too. They didn't get a single new piece of equipment in the 2 years I was there, and said equipment took forever to fix. My theory is the main clientele doesn't use real equipment so it didn't matter. On the plus side, watching the personal trainers brought me great joy. The amount of just pointless and just blantly terrible "workouts " I saw them pull old people through was honestly really entertaining. The locker rooms also reminded me of some Epstien Island type stuff. Just old long peepers out everywhere, and two old dudes got caught doing some dirty stuff in the bathrooms so there's that too. Also stuff always got stolen, like cutting locks off lockers and nothing was done. Finally, onto Suzie. She shares the lead poisoning of most members, as she is completely checked out of actually managing the Peak and seems to really not care at all. My guess is she's been there so long here job is safe so it doesn't really matter what she does. To sum this up, if you are 60+ and just wanna get out of the house sometimes, this is absolutely the gym for you. Now, if you take fitness seriously whatsoever go to any other gym in town. There half the cost and have much better equipment for actually building...
Read moreBEAWARE!!!!! I was not willing to sign a financial contract with peak and I wanted to work out for only one year. I asked if I could do that if I paid cash. The gentleman helping me (asian) said "yes we can do that" (also stated it's non refundable - I understand I said.) and it's discounted in price he says because I'm paying cash.. My year ends. Now I make a call to peak out of courtesy after receiving a reminder to renew). I let them know I'm not attending anymore, my year is up. Peak employee (male) on the phone takes my name and says he will let the office know. Then I start getting notices that I owe peak 174.xx dollars for membership past my 1 year. I talk to the accounting office I explain the whole thing again. She tells me you get charged if you don't call (I did call and funny that never came up when I was paying for my 1 year). I tell her not to send me anymore notices. Now today I get a collections notice for money I do not owe. This is simply an act to damage my credit and name. DO not trust peak Health and fitness. Apparently they will lie to you to get you in and even if the mistake is on their end....their happy to try to damage your credit and name. I'm going to court, I will not pay. Oh and to top it off Peak decided to take my EX wife's name from the emergency contact (she's a nurse and friend) portion of the form and add her to the collection complaint. (she lives in a different state). So you better be careful who you list for emergency contacts at Peak health and wellness, you could be adding all your family members to lawsuit and collection with peak, health and wellness. I too am a long term business owner here in town. Unbelievable predatory business practices and I will never do business with...
