Maybe you need to come here on a nicer day to be able to enjoy this park, but coming here on a cloudy day was definitely disappointing. There are so many potentially pretty views throughout the park, but every point for me was "meh" because of how gray it was the day we went. I can't help but compare this with Olympic National Park, especially Ruby Beach, which is superior. After a while - maybe the 2nd beach, I got tired of seeing all the dead wood everywhere. So annoying having to walk around and on them. It was cool, though, seeing what some people were capable of building with the wood. I couldn't find a trash can anywhere near the lighthouse, which seems like a necessary place to put one. Otherwise, people were leaving tons of garbage all over. Side note: I had a giant mosquito land on my arm on my way back to the car from Waikiki Beach. I knew because I felt it and then...

Since it is a "popular" park camping is $40 for one night which was advertised differently online. We got in late and chose a full hook-up site by accident. When paying for the site we explained we got in late and did not realize we chose the most expensive site meanwhile nobody was around and it was Christmas Eve. Regardless, the man at the booth was incredulous that we didn't know this stating there was signage (which did not indicate pricing of each site). He was a crochety old man with no sympathy for folks who had a hard time paying the exorbitant nightly fee. Will not be returning, if you intend to camp, be aware the park staff and campground hosts are jerks and sticklers...
Read moreUgh what a disappointment. Seriously, not joking like everyone else. Do not book sites 183-185. In fact most of D loop looks terrible (just saw from the car—no trees, packed in). We booked 183 and it was teensy tiny, muddy, had a bunch of trash in it and the neighbors were on top of us. There was barely room for a car. Not sure where you’d fit a tent (never mind two as the site said it fits 8 people). Washington state parks should be ashamed that they call this a campsite. (And aren’t they supposed to clean up anything left between check out and checkin?) Looks like the other loops have normal lovely looking sites-wish I’d looked closer when booking. Hope this helps...
