Quite disappointed in the place. The course conditions are appropriate for the price, but the Harbourside course is not a good course. Good golf is largely defined by the amount of shot options available on any particular hole and the Blue Heron 9, specifically, forces every shot instead of allowing risk/reward decisions to be made. There’s water on almost every hole on one side and out of bounds or jungle on the other, with a thin strip of fairway in between. You’ll lose your ball unless you hit where the course tells you...directly down the middle. Not fun or good golf. No strategy whatsoever. Red Hawk is more strategic and enjoyable, but similarly limited. Unfortunately, the most disheartening aspect of the experience is their exorbitant cart fees. They charge $27 per person per cart as an extra fee on top of the green fee, despite their website incorrectly stating it’s $17 after 1pm. However, what’s shockingly nonsensical is that they force you to take a cart until 3pm. So despite the cart not being included in the fee, you’re forced to take one for most of the day. This means it’s impossible to play 18 holes on this course while walking as darkness will interrupt your play, unless it’s summer time. After 1pm they charge $55 for green fees, which is reasonable, but with the $27 cart fee, it comes to $82 (in the off season) which is ridiculous for this resort. Green fees at Lakewood National and University Park CC run at $69 and $59 respectively, after noon, which includes a cart and those courses are far superior. I’m a firm believer that walking a golf course should always be an option. It’s how the game was meant to be played. If a course feels the need to force a cart to increase slow play, (low handicap players shouldn’t be forced to ride) don’t charge extra for it, especially $27. An $82 fee for playing 18 holes at this course in the afternoon...
Read moreHotel was excellent. The golf staff was the worst service I have ever received in my life. We had a large group of over 10 rooms at the resort and the golf staff treated us like second rate citizens. The staff expressed that they care more about the members than us on multiple occasions to numerous members of our group during both of the two rounds we played.
I understand that members take priority, but if it’s that big of a deal they should be a private golf course unaffiliated with the resort. I consistently play golf at 5 start resorts (I’m only saying this to show that this isn’t my first time at a nice resort).
Again the resort staff was incredible and great. Please also look over my reviews of previous places and you will see I always give positive reviews which will put my horrendous experience with the golf staff into...
Read moreOne of the best facets of the Longboat Key Club, whether you are a member or a guest, is the unassuming spa. I rarely go, but love the small intimate entry to the spa that is not frought with the typical wide spectrum of high-maintenance mandating open-air spaces. Instead, you can come just as you are... and you will still be greeted by down-to-earth caring staff through an intimate set of entries into a private room where you are gifted with an always therapeutic massage that can be adjusted according to your unique preferences . My favorite masseuse is Patty whose healing hands deliver a wonderful strategic touch. The staff is gracious and the premises are immaculate, quiet...
