Sand Cay Beach Resort — Local services in Longboat Key

Unit 118 - pictures online are very deceiving of the inside of unit! We’ve been vacationing in LBK for 20 years and have stayed at Sand Cay many times - this was by far the worst! On our checkin day - We arrived after hours - had 6 Adults which the unit accommodated and we new two of our group would be on a sleeper sofa - pulled the bed out - not only was it filthy with trash and crumbs of food but was also broken where the mattress would not stay up. We were able to make do for the night. Also on arrival the toilets seemed clogged and would hardly flush and water was high in the toilet. We were very afraid to flush because of overflow. Went to office next morning and they were very helpful and sent maintenance however he would not be able to do anything until Monday. Monday came and determined the bed couldn’t be fixed so solution was an air mattress for the week and toilets were adjusted but he indicated needed replacing. On Tuesday while making breakfast - two outlets started smoking as we were making coffee. Went back to office and maintenance came again and worked on those. All in all the management group were very kind but this is out of their control. The owners need to update this unit. Do not be sold on the photos. The office indicated the owners had replaced a few things in the unit - one being the adjacent living room furniture (which I could not tell it was new) and the vanity’s in the bathrooms. However, he bathrooms are tiny and still outdated. The bedroom furniture was chipped and scratched with drawers not able to slide in and all of the bedding was very old and musty smelling and TVs in the two bedrooms were maybe a 15”. I had really high expectations for our unit due to the price we paid for the week and the pictures posted. We stayed in 317 and the view is to die for but the condo was filthy and the second I walked in I was hit with an old musty/moldy/cigarette smell. We got there just before the office closed and the day before a holiday so I couldn't mention it for a few days. This unit needs a major deep clean and refresher! Walls are all scuffed up, carpets are old and filthy, fridge had many dead ants inside, bathroom cabinet doors were cover in beauty porduct and beard hairs. Master shower soap holder was covered in old soap! Couches had stains and hair all over them. The back of the pillows were covered in black hair. Everytime I walked by or into the hallway bathroom it smelled like someone just smoked a pack of cigarettes in it. After a few days I couldn't stand it anymore and started looking for mold. The shower bench underneath was COVERED in black mold. It was all exposed wood that had rotted and molded casuing the smell. I was furious at this point and ran down to the office to let them know. I'm only giving 3 stars because Melissa was very kind, understanding and accommodating otherwise I would give 1 star for the unit. She moved us to a new unit and provided other accommodations for us. My family stayed at sand cay beach resort unit 203 from 7/19 to 7/26 We have stayed in This unit before and it was nice. We selected the unit from the on line picture portal showing the inside of the unit. Upon walking into the unit we saw that the floor was visibly dirty and sandy with signs of what appeared to be black dirt on the floor. The window blinds were removed and there were black shower curtains hanging over the front patio door and windows. The furniture that was in the unit was outdoor plastic wicker looking furniture that was the most uncomfortable. Cushions kept sliding off when you moved and the square plastic coffee table was leaning to one side. The den/ tv are had some sort of couch that was sandy and not what was shown in the unit pics. That spare bedroom had cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and there were visible signs that the popcorn ceiling needed cleaning or painting. The only nice thing about this unit was the view and the beach tent. The master bedroom had an array of furniture that looked like a lounge. The owner did not update the interior pictures on line. Had we seen the interior pics and the furniture, we would have never rented this unit. It was a total disappointment to have to stay In There for the week. The staff is friendly and courteous and are always looking to assist if you have any problems.
