LaPlaya Condominiums — Local services in Longboat Key

My family and I have been visiting Longboat Key for over 20 years. This is our first time renting a unit at LaPlaya, and we were incredibly disappointed in the safety, cleanliness, and management of LaPlaya. Our unit had electrical outlets that were not properly secured or working, causing a safety concern. The unit was filthy. The drapes were covered in thick dust and dirt. The enclosed patio had a deceased insect, of which was being devoured by a pile of ants. (We had to procure our own can of Raid to kill the bugs, sweeping the patio ourselves to clean the mess.)

We also paid a $140 cleaning fee, but were required to wash our linens, dishes (emptying dishwasher), and take out the trash before departing. Any additional laundry was stated to be charged additional cleaning fees. What does the $140 go to?

The tv's in the unit did not work. They were smart units, but did not have connectivity to any of the cable boxes. Each tv was stickered with a notice that the cable was to not be disconnected or additional fees would be charged - thus eliminating the ability to try to fix the connectivity issues ourselves.

When attempting to speak with the onsite management, we were snapped "I'm going to be a while." as she was arguing with someone on the phone. No ask for our name or unit number...they didn't even know if we were a renter or someone off the street inquiring about staying. There was ZERO care given...which was confirmed again, when emailing the office after our departure to discuss our visit. No response yet again. My last resort was to post a review, so that others may be aware of the management and conditions at LaPlaya. Longboat is beautiful, and we will be back, just not to...

I really liked this property's location and the condo units themselves. I stayed in 2 different units. Both were spacious, clean and had comfortable beds. There could have been more kitchen supplies in the first unit but, the second one had a ton. When I was there, the other guests were pretty laid back. No big partiers or loud people. Maybe I was lucky but, I was grateful.

The only reason I didn't give LaPlaya a 5 star is because the front office gal was quite abrupt and abrasive with interactions with me. I had ended up in the emergency and spent 3 days in the hospital with acute breathing difficulties. (Non-COVID related) I was due to move condos the day after I was discharged from the hospital and asked if I could just put my suitcases and food in the fridge of my new unit. The cleaning staff was extraordinarily helpful and said they would clean my new unit first and also help me move my stuff into the new unit. When the office manager saw them helping me, she got upset and told me that I couldn't do that. Eventually, it all worked out, but it made for a stressful experience at a time I was feeling quite unwell. I'm thinking the office manager could use a little sensitivity training...

She was, however, very responsive and quickly got an electrician to come and repair the stove when it wasn't working. I very much appreciated that.

As a result of the stressful experience I had with staff, I might consider staying elsewhere when I return to Longboat Key... even though the property and condo units...

The location of the Condo is excellent. In the middle of the isle , beachfront, great - and quiet -beach. The unit that we stayed was exceptionally clean ( rooms, sheets, towels and all the kitchen utensils and cookware). Good blinds in both bedrooms to provide shade and darken the rooms. The downside is that the unit needs some improvements : 1-change the master bedroom mattress ( there were visible holes in it which cause some early back pain) 2- improve appearance of the unity with an upgrade of the furniture (sofa not comfortable) , as well as the lightning and a install a better blind system for the back entrance ( many blades of the laminated vertical blind were missing ). Improve lighting in the bathroom (very dark in the bathtub when curtain is closed) (very tiny bathroom for a 2 bedroom unit). Lastly, I'd suggest to have a bit more of cleaning and hygiene material available. We were in only 2 people and in one week stay what was left for usage was not enough. Why not adding US$ 10-15 to the rental and avoid this inconvenience? Staff was very courteous. ..BTW, there should be internet available throughout the condo. The unit we stayed had no internet which is something very basic,...
