I’m a nurse practitioner who works in Yale New Haven Health System in Bridgeport Connecticut.. I am astounded by the inferior patient services rendered to my 96 year old aunt on Tuesday October 3, 2023. I flew in from NYC to Albuquerque to visit my 96 year old aunt. She had acute right arm pain and a very large hematoma. Her right arm had impaired range of motion due to pain.
The admitting process to register for an acute visit, was awful.. There was no fax to send the order for a stat X-ray of right arm to radiology! We had to wait for the order to be printed. We then had to take the paper copy to Radiology. We were told that radiology would close by 5pm. My cousin and I put my aunt in a wheelchair and walked as fast as we could down the long hallway. Meanwhile, the wait time, no one ahead of us, was 25 minutes.. my cousin went to the front desk and asked why the wait time has been so long.. receptionist proceeded to knock on the door, 10 minutes later technician walks out disgruntled.
We also needed to have a soft tissue ultrasound.. I made the decision to do this at one of the radiology centers in Santa Fe. I called to schedule the US and we were promptly given an appointment today, Wednesday October 4th at 10:25. The process there was fast, technician was so very professional and helpful assisting my 96 year old aunt in a comfortable position. Rating of this facility 10/10. Staff very professional.. excellent patient care rendered. No wait time. A month ago my aunt was taken to Los Alamos medical center for acute pelvic pain, the radiology report indicated a pelvic issue.. The provider diagnosed her with sciatica!! WRONG diagnosis. My cousin called to report this and to this date NEVER received a response back from administration. Egregious and total lack of concern. Again another inferior experience.. It’s a shame a patient has to wait for a printed copy for the exam has to be hand delivered! There no fax machine we were informed. I could not believe this hospital/ acute walk in center was so backwards.
The medical care rendered at this hospital is 1/10 terrible experience . Who is the CEO? Who is the president ?Why in 2023 is this hospital medical center so backward??
I work with some of the best doctors and Nurse Practitioners in the nation. We are rated and evaluated on our health care delivery system for everything. I was so disappointed with the male Nurse Practitioner who attended my aunt.. I had to repeat her medical complaint twice and literally examined my aunt in front of him.. He never listened to heart and lungs, his physical examination was next to nothing. He was stating in front of my aunt she had no memory.. She is sharp cognitively and can give one dates and history of medical conditions in our family. She is bright with good cognition.
I’ll return to Connecticut this weekend and will feel really proud to work in one of the best Yale affiliated hospitals in the nation. Patients receive excellent care. Hospital administrators follow up on all complaints. We all strive daily to render the best quality care possible. The continuing education lectures on zoom by all specialists is a fantastic opportunity for continued learning. New treatments and constant updates. This is provided Monday through Friday 12 - 1 pm..
Lovelace clinic and the teaching hospitals in Albuquerque are excellent. I know this since my father received excellent medical attention when he was alive. However to do the drive from Los Alamos to Albuquerque is a stretch for a 96 year old woman..
I truly feel sorry for the people living in Los Alamos for the lack quality...
Read moreMy complaint is with the ER Physician and Anesthesiologist whose services I was provided by Los Alamos Medical Center for a broken foot and arm, as well as the hospital itself. I went to my only local hospital which is clearly contracted with my insurance company, but just got stuck with a bill from the ER doctor and anesthesiologist who are not contracted and refuse to accept only the usual, customary and reasonable rate that my insurance pays to out-of-network providers. Instead, they greedily took my insurance company's payment and additionally are balance billing me for the rest of their exorbitant rates. And, what's really ridiculous is that the ER doctor basically did very little for me and called in an orthopedic surgeon who took care of me (and who, thankfully is contracted with my insurance). Now, when all the insurance payments and adjustments shook out, the ER doctor basically expects to receive more than the orthopedic surgeon accepted (and he did the work). That's ludicrous. Hospitals should consider themselves gatekeepers, such that if the ER facility is contracted with your insurance, then any provider which THEY present to you should be, as well. It is very misleading and obviously ER patients are under physical DURESS when they sign paperwork upon arrival. There is a reason why legislature against such balance billing had been introduced in multiple states - because it is SHOCKING and WRONG. Shame on Los Alamos Medical Center, not to mention the unscrupulous uncaring ER providers who are making more money DIRECTLY out of the pockets of unfortunate people facing a crisis. What on earth do I have insurance for if it can't cover me in an emergency? This is crazy and scary. Please change the laws in New Mexico to limit such uncontracted providers to accept the usual, customary and reasonable rates that insurance companies will and do pay and prohibit...
Read moreHospital administration are a nightmare. I am from here I have seen the reputation decline over the decades. I risked it to see Dr. Green who is a phenomenal doctor. Getting closer to a Hernia Repair and O.R. did their call, post op did their call to me, and now it's the morning of the surgery. I did my fasting, my surgical preparations...everything was going smooth despite there being a lot of steps and I realize no one ever called me to tell me how much this is going to cost. I figure no big deal they can at least generate an estimate when I get there for me. I am probably going to have to sign one anyway. NEGATIVE. They can't and they don't and my window for pre-op slips. The register at the ER I checked in with wanted me to take her word on how much it might cost and get surgery anyway! I wouldn't take some one's word on the cost of a surgery at a GOOD hospital let alone LAMC. Edit: I found out they weren't able to generate paperwork to to the change healthcare cyberattack in February. A fact I did not learn until after the fact, the front office had no idea about, and something I should have been told. In fact they should post a banner about it on their homepage so that the possible disruptions become known and this could have all been avoided had they worked this out ahead of time like they where supposed to. update: I opened a case with the patient advocate. This was a big deal for about a week. I am going into surgery tomorrow (hopefully) but the damn billing department did it again! They didn't call to set up my bill before tomorrow, again!!! Luckily I caught it this time. My Doctor's nurse personally had to walk me over there and make them give me SOME paperwork. It's a terrible admin and our doctors and town deserve a better hospital. Fire Jennifer Grooms and her whole staff...
