i for a short time used this store every day iits a mom and pop operation with the kids manning the register throughout the day. The store has a little bit of everything at reasonable prices nothing high end and many things that really have3 no viable use but a strong familaiar place in the fabric of society. The only problem i had with the store is that kids run it they are for the most part polite reklatively well spoken and a passable general knowledge of general things but they are children and with only tghe supervision of each other they can make childish mistakes that the once3 a week or month visitor may not get but an educated shopper who embraces the availibility of the store may grow weary of quickly. case in point they charge a dolar extra if you use a debit card i dont think they even accept credit cards but in any event charging that extra dollar is not legal in the staet of California and for the sake of argument i wont use tghe term legall i will say that niether visa or mastercard allows this. I mentioned this casually on several occasions and was dismnissed off hand and i continued to pay it even if i had been in the store three or four times that day . One day i weas inthe stre for about 15 mins spending almost 60 dollars then cam back a few hours later and spent another 40the second time i was there on line for about 5 mins and realised that they had processed about four cards ib that time. i paid for my items and casually asked the oldest sister who looked to be about 18 about the charge ansd she was dismissive rude curt all at the same time i did not respond thinking wow where are her parents but i did go home asnd call the bank to get a definatic=ve answer ad i was right subsequintly they bank reveersed three months of charges to the tune of about 37 dollars and that was just one card it totalled about 50 on another card so in roughly 3 months i had been charged almost 80 dollars for nothing. The next day i went in i casually told the kids that i had been reimbursed by the bank and the little boy doubted that had happened and i almost dialed the bank to let them hear the automated message then realized what i was doing and remebered who i was trying to figure out why wi was validating myself to the kid who sold me toilet paper . i also stopped going into the store untril one day about a month later i really was tired and needed something at the register ther girl told me about the dollar charge which they did each and every tiime as if that made it right and i casually stated wow you giys know your not suppossed to be doing that and you still are. the older sister made it very clear to me that it was her store and she could do what she wanted including refuse me service which she did i laughed at her admiring her ability to stand up for herself but pittying her for standing up for something clearly so wrong and having to do so with out parental support which really would not have done anything to make up for the fact that she was rude to a customer for pointing out that they are charging people for something they are not supposed to be charging people for not if they are charging everyone that comes in that same fee and i have no doubt that they are hats the additional income stream amount to over three months it totaled 80 dollars with me lets say 25 a monthtimes 100 customers and chances are it is more than that well you do the math i have no problem not shopping there but when i go out of my way to support local merchants should i expect to be charged a little extra. what if i could not afford the extra dolar each time as i am sure many can not is it fair especially since the card companies themselves dont allow the practice....
