South Park Recreation Center — Attraction in Los Angeles

This park is like home to me!!!! I have been coming to this park throughout my entire life. My earliest recollections were of me coming here in the early 80s for Easter egg hunts 😁😀 anywho throughout the years the park has changed some bad some good... In later years there has been lots more funding for kids and activities veered for the neighborhood children ... The park is currently getting a facelift so its under construction and most parts are gated i do not believe that the gym w/ basketball court ,tennis area or baseball diamond are being affected by the work being done. I lived down the street, off 42nd St. & Long Beach Avenue for 2 years and I would frequent the Vernon Library weekly and I NEVER SAW THIS PARK!! NEVER! But now yhat I finally found it, I must say it is a beautiful park!! I love all of the benches and shady trees and the public pool! I went there today to attend a Community Resource Event ran by SCFHC & it was pretty good! I thought they were giving out food pantry bags for us participants, but they were serving street tacos instead for free. Plus beans and spanish rice. It was pretty good! Was driving home from work on 51st headed west bound. Some black dudes chilling across the park tried to carjack a Grey Honda Accord. They tried to open the car's passenger side door and when the carjacker saw it was locked, he started to kick the door hard. The driver then went into the opposite lane to get away from the criminal. This happened in broad daylight around 4 - 5 pm. It's not a safe park. It's never been a safe park. Been living close to here for 20 years and I drive to Salt Lake because that park is safer than this dump.
