Yes, they have lots of wood. Some of it is very nice but you will pay a premium for it. The reason I am writing this review is that there are a few things about this place that would improve it immensely.
First, it is too dark around the bays, especially in winter.
Second, much of the wood is fairly hard to access, and they do this with a lot of the exotics. The upper levels of the bays are pretty sketchy (not uncommon, I get it) and woods like wenge, bubinga, katalox -- heavy, exotic, expensive woods -- are stacked so high up that it's impractical to impossible to look through them. I wonder how much more they could sell if they would not have them stacked 6' high on a rickety second level? I needed purpleheart on my last trip there but it's too high so I did not bother.
Finally, they overgrade their wood. Figured maple and walnut have what look like European license plate numbers on them. I find this annoying. Slight figure on exotics? Double the price of they write "curly" on it. It's hard to know what you are going to be paying for wood.
Would be 4* if they fixed these issues, 5* if their...
Read moreIf you do any type of woodworking this is the place to go! If you want 2x4 studs or plywood, go to one of the big retail home centers. On the other hand, if you need some Cocobolo or Birdseye Maple or some highly figured wood for that table build or for a guitar you're making, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. It's worth a visit even if you're not buying something right then. There are more than 140 species of woods carried and you can buy woods cut as veneer, lumber, slabs and flitches. It's difficult for me to get out of there in less than an hour and it's usually considerably longer. The staff is very helpful and will exlplain some of the properties of wood you may be interested in. Make sure you bring a tape measure and maybe even a block plane if you want to get a sense of what a finished piece would look like. Even without the block plane the staff will put some alcohol on it to bring out the...

I love coming here and wandering around to pick through everything as there's always new stuff to find. I'm always discovering new woods I've never even heard of. Plan to spend some time here unless you work something out with them ahead of time. It's big and the layout is delightfully organic 😂
The first few times I came i was completely overwhelmed as I had never purchased rough lumber and it seemed like everyone but me know what they were doing. I was too embarrassed to ask. Don't be like me... if you're new, just ask for help. Everyone is super nice and knowledgeable. I understand they're building a nice new showroom which I'm very excited for and am sure it will help make things more...
