Diving in the crystal clear ocean waters in search of sharks is always an exciting adventure, but my recent diving experience with Gung Ho Divers exceeded all my expectations and became an unforgettable moment. The dive operation was simply exceptional in every aspect, from safety to quality of service. From the moment I arrived at the site where the dive boat was moored, I knew I was in good hands. We were greeted by the owner of the operation and dive guide, Nic Lombardo, whose warmth and friendliness gave me a sense of security and confidence. The dive boat is large, can comfortably carry more than 10 divers and has all the comfort and safety equipment desirable in this type of operation. Before entering the water, we received a full orientation on dive equipment and safety procedures, which eliminated any concerns I might have had. Once below the surface, Nic very quickly deployed the bait that was used to attract the sharks, which soon arrived and before long we were surrounded by numerous specimens of six different species of sharks, a real underwater party!!!! At all times the guide was aware of our position in the water and indicated where we should be for the safety of both the divers and the sharks. I can really say that Nic seemed to have four eyes, because at the same time he was attracting and feeding the sharks and he was looking out for all of us. I really have met few guides who are so alert and attentive to their divers. In summary, my experience with Gung Ho Divers was absolutely amazing in every way. This was hands down the most magical experience of my life. I'm a marine biologist who loves sharks and shark conservation. And this was my first shark dive. I went in as an excited diver and a skeptical biologist. Just due to scientific controversies. And I came out with a religious experience and not a skeptic. The conditions weren't ideal but they made it happen. During my first dive I had a cluster headache. Hit me bad enough that I had to end the first dive a couple minutes early. The way they helped me when I got back on the boat and looked out for my safety while not treating me like some dramatic woman or inconvenience was fantastic. They took it seriously and they were knowledgeable medical emergencies and things like that. They knew exactly how to handle the situation. I had to skip the second dive. And I still had the most amazing experience even just hanging out on the boat. (I was fine and we did not go back to shore but they were 100% willing to but I wasn't going to ruin everyone else's good time.) And I still had a good time not diving. And they get hooks out of shark's mouths. Something I appreciate tremendously. They were professional and personable and everything about it was amazing. I can't even explain in words what a freaking religious experience that dive was. And how great the freaking crew was. I was not worried about my safety during the dive at all with them even though I was nervous since it was my first shark dive. And I'm a very experienced diver. But I'm sure everyone is nervous on there first shark dive and they made that go away. And they are absolutely shark conservationists. In the real world, Hands-On.
